당신의 아이들은 당신의 소유가 아닙니다..

Your children are not your children

그들은  당신을 거쳐 태어났지만 당신으로부터 온것이 아닙니다..

They come through you but not from you

당신과 함께 있지만 당신에게 속해 있는것은 아닙니다..

And though they are with you. yet they belong not to you

당신은 아이들에게 사랑을 줄수는 있지만 생각은 줄수는 없습니다..

You may give them your love but bot your thoughts

그들은 자기의 생각을 가지고 있기 때문입니다..

For they have their own thoughts

당신은 아이들에게 육체의 집을 줄수는 있어도 영혼의 집을 줄수는 없습니다..

You may house their bodies but not souls

그들의 영혼은 내일의 집에 살고 있고,

For  their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow

당신은 그집을 결코,꿈속에서도 찾아가면 안되기 때문입니다..

Which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams

당신이 아이들처럼 되려고 노력하는 건 좋지만,

You may strive to be like them

아이들을 당신처럼 만들려고 하지는 마십시오..

but, seek not to make them like you

삶이란 뒷걸음쳐 가는법은 없으며,어제에 머물러 있는것도 아니기 때문입니다..

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
