My Chemical Romance [The Black Prade]

 

 

'이모는 아니올시다'

 

이미 선을 그어버린지 오래다. 언제부터인가(때는 잘은 기억은 안나지만)

이모밴드이 우후죽순 격으로 생기면서 질릴데로 질려버렸다.

(하긴 사실 제대로 들은 밴드도 거의 없지만)

 

이모(이 말에 대한 딴지는 거부, 광범위하게 말해)밴드들의

천편일률적인 곡 구성과 멜로디 라인.

도대체 유니크한 면을 발견할 수가 없었다.

 

하지만 그 와중에 단연코 빛나는 밴드가 있으니, 바로

 

My Chemical Romace.

 

지난 앨범 [Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge]를 통해

충분히 감격을 누렸다라고 생각을 해서 실은 이번 앨범엔 그다지 관심이 없었다.

 

더 이상 뭐가 있겠어?

 

 

아름답다. 바로 이게 있었다.

 

이번 앨범 첫 싱글 커트 곡인 이 곡을 들어보면

아름답다라는 말에 동의할 수 있을 것이다(아니면 말고)

 

범상치 않은 서두에, 웅장한 스케일에, 훌륭한 구성

더군다나 귀를 단번에 잡아끌만한 멜로디 라인.

아직 가사를 제대로 보진 못했지만 가사야 말로 이들의 최대의 무기일 것이다.

 

사실 이 싱글이 영국챠트에 1위를 점령했을 때 좀 놀랐다.

미국 락밴드의 곡이 영국 싱글챠트에 탑에 오르는 건 정말 흔치 않을 일이기도 하지만

영국사람들이 이런 음악에 그렇게 매혹될 지 몰랐다.

 

계속 말이 길어지는데,
