A court is in session
A verdict is in
No appeal on the docket today
Just my own sin
The walls are cold and pale
The cage made of steel
Screams fill the room
Alone I drop and kneel
Silence now the sound
My breath the only motion around
Demons cluttering around
My face showing no emotion
Shackled by my sentence
Expecting no return
Here there is no penance
My skin begins to burn

Chorus
(And i said ohh)
So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And i said ohh)
We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one

I hear a thunder in the distance
See a vision of a cross
I feel the pain that was given
On that sad day of loss
A lion roars in the darkness
Only he holds the key
A light to free me from my burden
And grant me life eternally
Should have been dead
On a Sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time
Should have been dead
On a Sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time

Chorus

I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison (repeat twice)

Chorus

(And i said ohh)
So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride

I've created
I've created
I've created
I've created
I've created
I've created my own prison

Should have been dead
On a Sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time

My Own Prison is the debut album by Creed, released on June 18, 1997 (see 1997 in music). It has been certified 6x platinum and is one of the top 200 selling albums of all time in the United States. The person kneeling on the album's cover is Justin Brown, a friend of the band. The picture was taken by Mark Tremonti's brother, Daniel, for a photography class.[2]

Wind-up Records intends to reissue the album in a 10th Anniversary Special package. This was slated for a release of November 13, 2007[2] but has been delayed.[

Success and Accomplishments

Over the course of Creed's career, the album has gone on to sell 6 million copies.[citation needed] The album has sold very well considering it was not originally released with any major media coverage, as Creed was an unknown band at the time.[citation needed] However, radio station DJs said that when they played "My Own Prison", they instantly got swamped with calls from people wanting to know whose song it was.[citation needed]
