Why is it that so many people these days have an online journal (blog)? I think the blog has become an extension of their identity. People can either enhance or change their identity through the various internetblogs such as cyworld. By uploading certain images, texts, by joining certain groups one gets insight in what moves and interests these people. The user himself has thus a number of tools at his disposal to built up his identity...whether or not it confirms reality is another question. Someone asked how come many people post pictures of celebrities rather than pictures of one own? I think it has not so much something to do with a personal disguise, I think the pictures we post on our cyworld accounts whether it they be of celebrities, objects or one self gives substantial insight in who we are which is indirectly defined by what we like or dislike. Moreover, such a community (even though only virtual) unites people under the joint premise of seeking and extending friendships, keeping in touch and the exchange of thoughts.
