Our laboratory focuses on the molecular and cellular events underlying neurodegeneration in normal aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and prion diseases. The laboratory studies the regulation and function of proteins that have been associated with neurodegenerative diseases.
Current areas of study include: 1) The biological and pathological functions of the members of the APP-like gene family and presenilins 2) The role of calsenilin and other neuronal calcium-binding proteins in normal aging and neurodegeneration. 3) Identification and characterization of new genes that is associated with normal aging and neurodegeneration.
By understanding the biological role that each protein plays in both the normal and the aging brain and determining how disease associated mutations change these functions, we can begin to understand neuronal degeneration and explore rational therapeutic interventions.

본 연구실은 한림대학교 부설 연구소인 일송생명과학연구소에 위치하고 있으며, 지하철 4호선 평촌역에서 5분거리에 위치하고 있습니다. 현재 8명의 전임교수와 50여명의 연구원, 연구사, 대학원생이 노화, 신경퇴행성질환, 종양학, 바이러스학 등을 연구하고 있습니다.
본 연구실에서는 퇴행성 신경질환 모델 마우스 및 신경세포주 등을 이용하여 퇴행성 신경변화 기전을 연구하고, 칼슘결합단백질과 관련된 신경변화 및 노화 및 퇴행성 신경질환의 새로운 표적인자를 동정, 특성 구명 연구를 하고 있습니다.
현재 석사과정 대학원생을 모집하고 있고, 등록금 및 생활비 지원을 합니다.
