1. Minus 8

Minus 8, aka Robert Jan Meyer from Switzerland, just released his third longplayer "Elysian Fields" on Compost Records, from which the title track is featured on the Gluklich IV compilation. The album "Elysian Fields" centres around breakbeats, beautiful atmospheric moments, and live-elements provided by skillfull Jazz-musicians like Chris Wiesendanger, and vocals of Billie and Tanja Birri, and the entire leftfied family amongst Rainer Truy, Jazzanova, Peter Kruder is more than pleased by the result. Minus 8 masters the whole spectrum of Downbeat, Drum & Bass and Nu-Jazz. After two albums on Higher Ground Records, Minus 8 joined the Compost family. Watch out for two remix E.P.s of the album which are out now including excellent mixes by The Amalgamation of Soundz, Big Bang, Les Gammas, Dr. Rockit, Tiny Trendies and Zimpala. 2. Ready Made

Jean-Philippe Verdin, alias Ready Made, was born in 1966 in Nancy, France. Early musical influences came from his dad, a huge jazz fan, and his sisters, who are classical musicians. Fascinated by painting and image, he studied five years at an Arts School. As a designer he created advertising campaigns for MTV Europe and the label Dorado. In 1997 Jean-Philippe released his first E.P. on F Communications, a jazzy and soulful house track. The second release "Dynamo" received enthusiastic reactions in the United Kingdom and France. Jean-Philippe also composed music for several fashion shows and show rooms (Thierry Mugler, John Ribbe, Blanc Bleu). This year will see the release of Ready Made's debut album on F Communications, as well as , several Live-Acts and DJ-Sets across Europe.

4. Gotan Project

On boundaries of Argentinean music (tango and milonga) and electronic music, Gotan Project is developing its concept between the hands of Philippe Cohen Solal, Christoph H. Mueller and Eduardo Makaroff. The three musicians from different origins created this project as they share the same feelings about the possibilities of Argentinean music bringing the musical emotion at its paroxysm. The Gotan Project has so far released two 10" on Ya Basta! Records from Paris, and their music has been heavily played by important underground DJs like Peter Kruder, Gilles Peterson, UFO, Rainer Truy etc. in the past months.

5. Truy Trio

After their great exclusive track for the Gl?klich III compilation, another exclusive by the Truy Trio for this one. The Truy Trio are Christian Prommer, Roland Appel, who also work together under the name Fauna Flash, and Rainer Truy. This time their track is a very groovy and sunny samba percussive number that swings and definitely will cause trouble on the dancefloor. The Truy Trio are currently working on their debut album, which will be out early next year. A remix 12" of their A Go Go / Carajillo E.P. is out now, featuring mixes by Jazzanova, DJ Muro, Boozoo Bajou.

6. Madeline Bell

Madeline Bell Brodus was born on the 23rd July 1942 in Newark, New Jersey, USA. By the age of 14 she was already one of the most talented gospel singers. In 1962 she toured the world with her successful show "Black Nativity". After that she became a central part of the innovative group "Blue Mink" with whom she recorded the memorable song "Melting Pot", a huge hit in 1969. Madeline Bell worked with Tom Jones, James Last, Joe Cocker, John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and many others and she played a major role in London's recording studios. She also provided songs to many Hollywood film soundtracks, like "A Touch of Class", "Hammerhead" etc.. All her colleagues agree that Madeline has one of the best voices in the business. In July 1999 Madeline Bell received an award from "The International Alliance For Women In Music", for her lifetime contribution to the music industry.

8. Mark De Clive-Lowe

Half New Zealander and half Japanese, Mark De Clive-Lowe has dedicated his life to music. Following his debut album, Six Degrees, which he wrote and produced by himself, he is considered to be one of the artists at the forefront of the nu- skool jazz and beat movement. Six Degrees breaks down the boundaries between jazz, house, hip hop and drum'n bass. The single release of the album "El Dia Perfecto" is the track featured on Gl?klich IV, a club classic, which has been highly acclaimed since its release. Mark is also involved in a new South Pacific-flavoured hip hop project "Nuvonesia", together with MC Imon Star and DJ Manuel Bundy. They just released a debut album called "Island of Nuvonesia", which is only available in New Zealand. At the moment Mark is working on a remix for the new Bill Evans album.

9. Wei Chi

Wei Chi is Raoul Walton. This is his first new track after his appearance on the Future Sounds Of Jazz Vol.6 compilation. Raoul was born in New York, Manhattan, and played with everybody in the Jazz and Fusion scene over there in the mid-Eighties. Just to mention a few: Michael Urbaniak, Sam Rivers, Dom Um Romao and Kenny Kirkland. In fact - for 20 years now - Raoul has been working as a well-trained and full- professional bass-player from e-bass, slap to setar. Not only in the Jazz field has he recorded dozens of sessions and live-gigs with Doug Wimbish, Keith Le Blanc (Fats Comet Cru, Sugarhill Gang) and others. During the last two years he spent some time in Munich, doing Jazz and Freejazz sessions, recording and playing both studio and live-gigs with Fauna Flash. You can also hear his style on some Truy Trio tracks.

10. Himiko Kikuchi

Himiko Kikuchi is a Japanese composer and e-piano player, who was quite popular and successful in Japan in the late seventies. 11. Kyoto Jazz Massive

"A Calmaria", the first new track from the Kyoto Jazz Massive on Compost since their debut 12". And this is exclusive to the compilation. Kyoto Jazz Massive are the two brothers Shuya Okino and Yoshihiro Okino. Their future jazz blend of Jazz, Bossa, Latin and House is not a trainspotting one, they are definitely one of the pioneers and originators in Japan since the late Eighties. Their club-night "Kyoto Jazz Massive" is almost legendary! They organise regularly club-nights in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto since the early nineties, and their concept of playing old and new full spectrum sets was and still is a similar concept to regular jazz-orientated club-nights like the Mojo-Club (Hamburg), THIS! @ Bar Rhumba (London) or Into Somethin' @ Muffatcafe (Munich). Yoshihiro started his own label "Especial Records" this year, which will release its second 12" "Hajime Yoshizawa ?Secret Flight E.P." including a Dego Remix in November.

Buscemi is the name of the "Belgique Musique" dance project created by Dirk Swartenbroekx. Buscemi just released his second longplayer "Our Girl From Havanna", from which the track for the Gl?klich compilation is taken from. The album is a delicious and unique South-American approach of house and drum 'n bass. Future Jazz with a Brazilian touch, warm house, diva vocals and so on, Buscemi is a master in producing diverse dance music, so groovy, it surely rocks the dancefloor.

13. Supersempft

Supersempft are the two musicians and producers Till Maragnoli and Thomas Braun. In 1994 they met each other in an reggae-afro band and since 1997 they have worked together as Supersempft. Their technique is to work with several guest musicians for their productions in the studio. The result is music with diverse influences and instrumentation, which gives Supersmepft its own original sound. On Gl?klich IV they release their first track and there will soon be more on Compost Records from this dynamic duo out of Freiburg.
