The Impossible Dream

To dream the impossible dream,

to fight the unbeatable foe,

to bear with unbearable sorrow,

to run where the brave dare not go,

To right the unrightable wrong,

to love pure and chaste from afar,

to try when your arms are too weary,

to reach the unreachable star

This is my quest

to follow that star

no matter how hopeless, no matter how far

To fight for the right

without question or pause,

to be willing to march,

march into hell for that heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true,

to this glorious quest

that my heart will lie peaceful and calm

when I'm laid to my rest.

And the world will be better for this

That one man scorned and covered with scars,

still strove with his last ounce of courage

to reach the unreachable star.

이루어 질 것 같지 않은 꿈을 갖고,

도저히 쳐부술 수 없을 것 같은 적과 싸우면서,

어떤 슬픔도 참아가며,

용감한 사람들도 가기 꺼려하는 곳으로 가고

바로 잡을 수 있을 것 같지 않은 잘못을 바로 잡으려 하며,

저 먼 곳에 있는 순수하고 정결한 것을 사랑하고,

양 팔의 모든 힘이 다 빠지도록 노력하며,

닿을 수 없을 것 같은 저 별을 향해 나아가는 것

그 일이 얼마나 가망 없고 힘들다 해도 여전히 갈구하는 것,

이것이 나의 여정.

가져야 할 권리를 위해 아무런 의심 없이 중단 없이

그러다 나락으로 떨어지는 한이 있더라도 싸워 나가는 것,

이것이 나의 천명.

이 영광스런 싸움에서 내가 끝까지 옳을 수 있다면

정말 평화롭게 쉴 수 있겠지.

경멸받고 고통받아 상처 가득한 한 인간이

마지막 남은 힘까지 짜내서 저 닿을 수 없는 별에 닿으려고

노력하고 또 노력한다면

지금보다 세상은 더 좋아지겠지.
