주께 더 나가길 원합니다.

야곱이 잠깨어 일어난 후 돌
단을 쌓은것 본 받아서
숨질때 되도록 늘 찬송하면서
주께더 나가길 원합니다. 아멘.

어느날 존스 폭스 목사가 사라 애덤즈와 그녀의 누이

엘리자에게 찬송가 편집을 도와 달라고 했다.

폭스 목사는 창세기 28장 10-22절에 기록된 야곱과 에서에 관한

자신의 설교에 맞는 찬송가가 있었으면 좋겠다고 했다.

이 찬송가는 이 성경 이야기를 주제로 사라 아담즈가 작사한 것.

이 찬송가에얽힌 많은 일화들이 있다.

미국의 대통령 맥킨리는이 찬송가를 즐겨 불렀고..

임종때에도 이 찬송가를 부르면서 죽었다고 한다.
