When the earth was still flat
And the clouds made of fire

지구가 아직 평평하고 구름이 불을 뿜던 시절

And the moutains stretched up to the sky
Sometimes higher

하늘까지 솟은 산과 더 높은 산이 솟아있던 그 때

Folks roamed the earth
Like big rolling kegs

사람들은 커다란 나무 술통이 구르듯이 지구를 배회했어

They had 2 sets of arms
They had 2 sets of legs

그들은 두 쌍의 팔과 두 쌍의 다리가 있었어

They had 2 faces peering

Out of one giant head

커다란 머리 양쪽에 두 개의 얼굴을 가지고 있었지 

So they could watch all around them

그들은 주변의 모든 것을 볼 수 있었고

As they talked; while they read

읽으며 말할 수 있었어

And they never knew nothing of love

그리고 그들은 결코 사랑에 대해 알지 못했어

It was before the origin of love

그것은 아직 사랑이 생겨나기 이전의 이야기

And there were 3 sexes then,

그땐 3개의 성이 있었지,

One that looked like 2 men
Glued up back to back

하나는 두 남자의 등이 붙은 모습으로

Called the children of the sun

해의 아이라 불리웠어

And similar in shape and girth
Were the children of the earth

그리고 생김새와 크기가 비슷한 땅의 아이는

They looked like
2 girls rolled up in one

두 여자가 하나로 얽혀있는 모습이고

And the children of the moon
Were like a fork shoved on a spoon

달의 아이는 마치 숟가락 위에 포크를 겹쳐놓은 모습이지

They were part sun, part earth
Part daughter, part son

한 쪽은 해, 한 쪽은 땅,

한 쪽은 딸, 한 쪽은 아들이었어

Now the gods grew quite scared
Of our strength and defiance

이제 신은 우리의 힘과 저항에 겁을 먹게 되었지

And Thor said "I'm gonna kill them all with my hammer,
Like I killed the giants,"

천둥의 신 토르가 말하길 "내 망치로 저들을 죽이리라.

내가 거인들에게 그리했던 것처럼."

But Zeus said "no"
"You better let me use my lightening like scissors,

그러자 하늘의 신 제우스가 말하길

"내 번개를 가위처럼 들어 그들을 찢어 죽이리라.

Like I cut the legs off of whales,
Dinosaurs into lizards"

내가 고래의 발을 자르고, 공룡을 조각내어 도마뱀으로 만든 것처럼."

And so he grabbed up some bolts
He let out a laugh

그리고 번개를 집어들고 웃으며 말했어.

Said "I'll split them right down the middle,
Gonna cut em' right up in half"

"저들의 가운데를 정확히 갈라주리라. 정확히 반으로 쪼개주리라."

And then storm clouds gathered above
Into great balls of fire

그러자 폭풍의 구름들이 몰려들어 거대한 불덩이를 이루었지.

And then fire shot down from the sky in bolts
Like shining blades of a knife

그리하여 번뜩이는 칼날처럼 하늘에서 벼락이 내리쳤지.

And it ripped right through the flesh
Of the children of the sun

And the moon
And the earth.

해와 달과 땅의 아이의 육체를 갈라버렸지.

And some indian god
Sewed the wound up into a hole,

어떤 인도의 신은 우리의 죄를 구멍처럼 꿰메어 배 위에 두었어.

Pulled it round to our belly
To remind us of the price we pay.

죄의 댓가가 무엇인지 항상 되새기라고.

And Osiris and the gods of the Nile

그리고 죽은 자의 신 오시리스와 나일강의 신은

Gathered up a big storm
To blow a hurricane,
To scatter us away,

거대한 폭풍우로 허리케인을 일으켜

우리를 흩어지게 했어.

In a flood of wind and rain,
And a sea of tidal waves,
To wash us all away,

바람과 비의 홍수 속에서, 거친 파도의 바다에서,

우리 모두를 쓸어버리기 위해.

And if we don't behave
They'll cut us down again

우리가 다시 반항하면

And we'll be hopping round on one foot
And looking through one eye.
