The History of Manneken-Pis:

We don't know the origins of the fountain: during the Middle Age was a fountain with the same character, at the same place.  On some days, it delivered good quality alcool!  Its state became worse along the centuries.

The city of Brussels bought in 1619 a new statue to Jerome Duquesnoy.  Daniel Raessens was chosen to build a 6 feet column to hold Duquesnoy's work.

In 1695, when the Marechal d Villeroy attacked Brussels, M-P is kept in a safe place; it came back after the French bombing.  A sentence was written below the statue, saying "God has put me on a rock and know I am stronger than my enmies (In petra exhaltavit me et nunc exaltavi caput menum superinimicos meos)."

French soldiers from Louis XV stole te sttue in 1747 and left next to a strip-tease house Louis XV punished the robbes and offered M-P a supeb costume.  In 1817, the prisonner Antoine Lycas stole the statue again.  M-P was in a bad state.  Lycas sentence was life emprisonment.

It's probably the sculptor Godecharle who repared the statue.  She came back in 1818.  The M-P had many advetures during the 20th century, the last one occured when students stole it after a bet...
