4. While his mom worked. Carlos looked around. He wandered into a storeroom filled withold signs. At first he didn't see anything interesting. Then
something made him catch his breath. Hidden in a coner was nearly as big as Carlos. It had two metal arms with silver fingers. It's head was round and had two green lights for eyes. carlos pushed some buttons on the robot's chest, but nothing happened.
5. Carlos hurried to his mother's office and said, "Mom, there's a robot. . . ."
He stopped when he noticed that his mother was talking to her boss, Mrs. Chung.
6 "Oh, that old thing," Mrs. Chung said. "We used it once, but it's just junk now. It's time to get rid of it."
7 "I wish I could buy it." Carlos said dreamily. "I'd love to have a robot."
8 "It isn't worth much," Mrs. Chung said. "I could sell it to you for ten dollars."
9 "Ten dollars?" Carlos asked, grinning. "I already have about six dollars. I could earn the rest. May I, Mom?"
10 "Well, for a person who likes to fix things, I guess a broken robot sounds just right," his mom said, smiling.
11 Carlos ran back to the storeroom. "You woc't have to stay here much longer," he said to the robot. "As soon as I save enough mony, I'm taking you home with me."
