공정무역운동을 하는 글로벌 익스체인지(http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/fairtrade/cocoa/)는 매년 발렌타인데이에 '초콜렛 캠페인-액션'을 진행하고 있습니다. 글로벌 익스체인지의 초콜렛 캠페인은 전세계 초콜렛 원료 시장의 절반을 차지하고 있는 네슬레, 카킬, ADM 등 3대 초콜렛 기업의 불공적 무역으로 인한 낮은 코코아 가격 때문에 코코아 주요생산국(아이보리, 코스트, 가나, 나이지리아, 카메룬)에서 발생하는 가난, 아동노동, 아동노예제, 환경파괴 등을 해결하기 위해 가난한 생산자들에게 그들이 생산한 물건에 대해 적당한 가격을 주고 거래하자는 운동입니다. 특히 공정무역운동을 통해 코코아 농장에서 노예처럼 일하던 아이들도 배움의 기회를 얻을 수 있다고 합니다.(아래 참조)
코코아농장에서 일하는 아이들은 한주에 80~100시간 노동을 강요받는다.

What is the National Valentine's Day of Action? We are inviting K-6 teachers to teach Global Exchange's Fair Trade cocoa curriculum. Our goal is to educate at least 500 children about Fair Trade in a single day -- Valentine's Day, and help hundreds of thousands of kids in cocoa farming communities!
What you can do: Please take action by contacting at least five teachers today!!! Now is the time to call and email! Teachers plan their schedule several weeks in advance!
Copy, paste, and forward the email text below to all the K-6 teachers and school administrators you know to ask them to teach the Fair Trade cocoa curriculum on Valentine's Day, 2008. (Feel free to contact both public and private schools and other classroom programs for elementary school kids, such as "Sunday school"-type programs.) Call or email K-6 teachers at the schools in your local area and ask them to teach the curriculum. Or you can download and print this letter to your child's teacher, for your child to bring to class. The letter informs the teacher about the National Valentine's Day of Action. Feel free to distribute copies of the flyer to other parents you know, or at your organizations, work, or faith-based community.

Teachers who teach the curriculum on the National Valentine's Day of Action will be entered into a prize drawing to win over $75 worth of Fair Trade chocolate and educational materials!
