어떻게 보면 가수가 매력적인 색깔의 보컬을
가지고 있어야 그 가수의 생명이 오래가는 건 당연한 사실이다.
우리나라의 가수들도 다르지 않다.
록시트의 보컬인 페르 게슬 역시 중석적인 색깔을 가진 매력적인 보컬이다.
1980년대 스웨덴에서 결성된 록시트는
지역적인 한계를 극복하고
많은 곡을 미국 빌보드 차트에1위로 랭크시켰다.
사실 미국 빌보드 차트에 미국 외 다른 국가 출신의
가수들이 1위를 한다는게 얼마나 힘든지는
음악에 조금 관심있는 사람들이라면 알 것이다.
이렇게 외국계 아티스트들에게 냉소적인 미국인들조차

내가 처음 록시트의 음악을 들었던게
1990년대 중반이니까 록시트 전성기의 끝무렵이였다.
어느새 올드팝이 되어버렸다.
사람은 세월이 지남에 따라 얼굴도 변하고
성격도 변하지만 명곡은 세월을 뛰어 넘는다는게
록시트의 음악을 들으면 알 수 있을 것 같다.
누가 록시트의 음악을 듣고
20년이 지난 곡이라고 말할 수 있겠는가??
어떤 음악은 기분 좋을 때 들어야 좋고
또 어떤 음악은 기분이 처져있을 때 들으면 좋을 때가 있을 것이다.
하지만 아이러니하게도
록시트의 음악은 두가지 무드가 다 통한다.
적어도 나에게는.....
또 팝송을 많이 들어 온 나로서는
좋은 곡이 있을 때 무작정 인터넷에
해석을 찾기보다는 가사를 보고
음악을 들어가면서 자기 느낌대로 해석을하면
그 음악이 더 아름답게 들릴 것 같다.
인터넷에 의역 없이 완전 직역을 해 놓은
것을 보면 정말 한숨이 나온다.
좋은 음악을 그런식으로 망쳐놓는 사람들이 많다.
외국에서는
가수를 Singer라기보다는 Artist라고 부르기를 선호하고
가사를 Lyrics라고 한다.
그렇다..
록시트같은 Artist는
시를 써서 우리들에게 그것을
