한쪽의 두 눈은 아주 먼 곳 그러니까 띵커의 고향까지도
볼 수 있는 눈이고 또 한쪽의 두 눈은 이야기 하는 사람의 마음까지도 볼 수 있는 아주 잘 보이는 눈을 가지고 있어요.
Thinkuh doesn’t have a nose and a mouth but he has four eyes!
One pair of eyes can see as far away as his hometown where he came from.
The other pair lets him read peoples’ minds.

some interesting things. Because of what Thinkuh looks like, no children
would like this little creature. His horn look like carrot. He has a dress
that looks like it’s made of spinach. His skin is as purple as an egg plant.
His body is shaped like a squash. All of those are vegetables that no
children like! Are there any children who loves these vegetables?

띵커가 가장먼저 찾아간 곳은 콧노래를 부르며
꽃밭에 물을 주고 있는 할머니였어요.

Actually, she had never seen the flowers bloom either.
She waters the flowers every morning.
And when the flowers die, she collects the seeds.
She puts the seeds in little cups and waits till next spring so the flowers
will grow well.
She has been doing all this for a long, long time but she never thought
about when the flowers actually bloom.

The old lady was so happy with her answer and looked at Thinkuh with a

The second person Thinkuh asked was a beautiful young lady who looked like a
young rose blooming. Thinkuh came to her as she was watering her begonia.

필요한 도구야. 그러니 밤에 피어나야 마땅하지”
“돈과 명예와 권력이 왜 필요한 건데?”
“좋으니까..... 매력이 있거든.”

“아 멋지군, 그런데 사람들은 진짜 멋진 것에는 매력을 못 느껴.

It was already nighttime and a bright neon light came into sight.
Thinkuh spotted a handsome gentleman walking down the street.
"When do the flowers bloom?"
"Wow, kid. You should be more polite when you talk to the adults."
"Believe it or not, I've lived longer than you. I was just wondering if you
knew when the flowers bloom."
"Great question. Flowers bloom at nighttime like all the historical events
happen at night."
"I didn't ask about history. I only want to know when the flowers bloom."
"Kid, if you want to know when the flowers bloom, you need to know what
flowers are."
"What are flowers then?"
"Flower is a tool for guys to get money, power, and honor. That's why
flowers should bloom at night."
"Why is money, power, and honor so important though?"
"Because it's a good thing, kid. A very beautiful thing, it is."
"That is wrong. Love, peace, and freedom are a whole lot more important than
that."
"Well, then. Here's the thing. People are not really attracted to the real
truthful thing because it requires some kind of division."
"That's right.

But you still haven't answered my question about when the flowers bloom.

네 번째로 만난 사람은 꽃가게 아줌마 였어요.
커다란 화원에는 형형색색의 많은 꽃들이 있었어요
The fourth person Thinkuh met was a lady working at the flower shop.
There were all sorts of colorful and beautiful flowers.

“Okay, this is all I know. Flowers bloom when the customers want them to.”
“That’s not true though. Flowers don’t care about the money like me.”
“Ah. But the customers’ money are not the ones getting the flowers, right?”

Thinkuh left the city full of skyscrapers and headed towards the church made
of red bricks in the suburban.
All the priests seemed so busy working.
Thinkuh came to an elder priest who had a smile on his face and asked,

“꽃들은 심겨진 곳에서 꼼짝도 할 수 없단다.
너처럼 가고 싶은 곳을 마음대로
갈 수 없으니 궁금한 것들이 많을 거야.”
“그럼 어디든 갈 수 있으면 궁금한 것들이 없다는 거야?”
“그건 아니지만 ..... 어디든 갈 수 있으면
궁금증을 스스로 풀어볼 수가 있지 않겠니?

“아니 아직 직접 물어 보지는 못했어?”
“Flowers cannot move from where they are planted. They cannot walk around
like you or the people on this planet. So they grow curious about so many
things.”
“Well, if they can move around anywhere they want to, they wouldn’t be
curious about so many things anymore?”
“No, but at least you can go ask around finding answers. Flowers must bloom
for wondering about the sky.”
“Have you asked the flowers about it?”
“No, I haven’t.”

순간 띵커는 하늘에서 환한 빛이
쏟아져 내리는 듯한 기쁨을 느꼈어요.
그것은 알고자 하는 것이 가까이 다가와 있음을
느끼는 순간이었으니까요.
Suddenly, Thinkuh felt a bright light falling from the sky and it felt like
love and joy was hugging all over his body.
This was the moment when Thinkuh got so close to the answer for his
curiosity.

He asked the colorful flowers.

“Do you know the difference between sounds and words?”
“소리는 대답할 수 없는 울림이고
말은 대답할 수 있는 소리야.”
“A sound is an unanswerable vibration but a word is an answerable sound.”
“그럼 울림은 소리로 진보하고 소리는 말로 진보됐다는 뜻이야?”
“So, what you’re saying is that a sound is made of vibrations and words are
made of sounds, yes?”
“내 생각은 그래 그리고 여자들은 말과 소리에 민감해.”
“Yes. And girls are very sensitive to sound and words.”
“고마워 중요한 것을 알려줘서.”
“Thank you for teaching me something very important.”

Thinkuh was thinking about the beautiful promise after he talked to the
little taffy.
He realized how beautiful planet Earth is to keep that great promise.
He also realized that there is something more important to flowers than
blossoming.

He remembered priest Grisando talked about being able to actually go
somewhere will let him find out what he wants to know. Thinkuh rubbed his
eyes to wake him up. He was so sleepy. He sat around the flowers and waited,
and waited. Thinkuh opened his eyes as wide as he can and stared at the
flowers. The east side of the sky was started to get bright. He didn’t even
know that he fell asleep for a moment and the flowers were already bloomed.

갓 피어난 노란 수선화가 말했어요.
Thinkuh asked the flowers so many times but they just smiled and didn’t say
anything.
Thinkuh was very disappointed and right when he got up to leave, the baby
daffy answered.
49)
“꽃들에게 물어서 대답을 안 할 거야,
“Nobody would answer because you asked the flowers. You should ask a
flower.”
꽃에게만 물어야지”
“꽃들과 꽃이 왜 다른 거지?”
“What’s the difference between a flower and flowers?”
“꽃들은 모두를 부르는 소리지만
꽃은 수선화인 나만 불러주는 말이거든.”
“Flowers call for all the flowers here. But I am a flower. And I’m little
daffy.”
“소리와 말의 차이가 뭐야?”
“Do you know the difference between sounds and words?”
“소리는 대답할 수 없는 울림이고
말은 대답할 수 있는 소리야.”
“A sound is an unanswerable vibration but a word is an answerable sound.”
“그럼 울림은 소리로 진보하고 소리는 말로 진보됐다는 뜻이야?”
“So, what you’re saying is that a sound is made of vibrations and words are
made of sounds, yes?”
“내 생각은 그래 그리고 여자들은 말과 소리에 민감해.”
“Yes. And girls are very sensitive to sound and words.”
“고마워 중요한 것을 알려줘서.”
“Thank you for teaching me something very important.”

“수선화야 넌 언제 피어났니?”
“몰라 잃어버렸어.”
“뭐야 잃어버렸다고?”
“응”
“정말?”
“그렇다니까”
“왜?”
“가장 중요한 것은 빨리 잃어버려야 되거든.”
“왜 잊어야 하지?”
“잊어야 더 중요한 것을 잘 할 수 있으니까.”
“더 중요한 것이 뭔데?”
“씨앗을 만드는 일.”
“씨앗이 뭐야?”
“Okay, Taffy. When did you bloom?”
“Well, I forgot.”
“What? You forgot?”
“Yes, I forgot.”
“Really?”
“Really!”
“Why?”
“You should forget about important things right away.”
“Why should you forget?”
“So you can move on to something more important.”
“What is more important then?”
“To make the seed.”
“What are seeds?”

내가 사라진 후 이곳에 또 다시 수선화가 피어날 약속이지.”
“그건 정말 중요한 거구나.”
“It’s a promise that there will be another taffy after I disappear.”
“That’s very important then.”

띵커는 수선화와 이야기를 마친 후
꽃과 씨앗에 대해서 그 아름다운
약속에 대해서 생각했어요.
그리고 그 약속을 지키고 있는 지구별이
너무나 아름답다는 생각을 했어요.
그리고 깨닳았어요.
수선화의 말처럼 사람들이 꽃들이
언제 피어나는지 알지 못하는 것은 중요한
것은 잃어버렸기 때문이라는 것도 알게 됐어요.
Thinkuh was thinking about the beautiful promise after he talked to the
little taffy.
He realized how beautiful planet Earth is to keep that great promise.
He also realized that there is something more important to flowers than
blossoming.

다만 사람들은
수선화처럼 자신이 무엇 때문에 중요한 것은
잃어버려야 하는지를 알지 못하는 것 같아 울적했어요.
Thinkuh was sad about people and little taffy forgetting about the important thing. Not only little taffy but people, too, forget about many important
things because they have to deal with more important things.
And this made Thinkuh sad.

다음날 새벽 동도 트기 전에
띵커는 꽃밭으로 나가서 꽃들이
피어나기를 기다렸어요.
누구도 대답해 줄 수 없다는
것을 알았기 때문이지요.
Early next morning, Thinkuh went out to the flower garden and waited for the
flowers to bloom.
He finally realized since nobody answered his question.

어디든 갈 수 있으면 궁금한 것을
직접 알아낼 수 있을 거라는
그리산도 신부님의 말씀이
떠올랐기 때문이었지요.
띵커는 졸지 않으려고 눈을 자주
부비면서 꽃밭에 앉았어요.
꽃봉오리들을 눈을 부릅뜨고
쳐다보고 있다가 동쪽 하늘이
밝아오고 있는데 깜빡 졸음에 겨워
꾸벅 했을 뿐이데, 눈을 떠보니
꽃들은 이미 피어 있었어요.
He remembered priest Grisando talked about being able to actually go
somewhere will let him find out what he wants to know. Thinkuh rubbed his
eyes to wake him up. He was so sleepy. He sat around the flowers and waited,
and waited. Thinkuh opened his eyes as wide as he can and stared at the
flowers. The east side of the sky was started to get bright. He didn’t even
know that he fell asleep for a moment and the flowers were already bloomed.

정말 눈 감빡 할 사이였는데
그 사이에 꽃들이 피어난 것이지요.
띵커는 수선화 곁으로 다가갔어요.
It felt like a second and the flowers have already bloomed.
Thinkuh came to the little taffy.

“수선화야 네가 잃어버렸다는 것을
난 알게 됐어.”
“그게 뭔데?”
“꽃은 눈 깜빡 할 사이에 피어나는 거야.”
“호호호”
“왜 웃지?”
“언제 피어나는지는 중요하지가 않아,
지금 여기에 꽃이 피어 있다는 것이
더 중요 한 거야”
“네 말이 맞아 가장 중요한 순간은
눈 깜빡 할 사이고 그것은 언제나
지금 여기이니까.”
“Hello, little taffy. I just found out that the flowers bloom when I
blinked my eyes for a second.”
“Ha ha ha.”
“Why are you laughing?”
“It’s not important when the flowers bloom. The important thing is that
flowers have already bloomed here now.”
“Yes, you’re right. The most important moment is as short as when I blinked
and that is always happening right now, right here.”

아침햇살이 눈부신 아침 꽃들은
찬란하게 피어났고 지구별까지 찾아온 띵커도
꽃이 피어나는 것을 보지 못한 거지요.
The bright morning light dazzled Thinkuh’s eyes and Thinkuh came all the way
from his planet to catch the moment of flowers blooming but he missed it in
the blink of an eye.
