In 2018, many Korean women appeared in the public square, which is located in Gwanghwamun, Seoul. They shouted that women can stand without men and their bodies are not porn. It is an amazing record for Korean feminism. If you are a woman had pictures been taken your body without your knowledge in a public area, you might be in favour of these demonstrations for a lot of victims of hidden camera crime. The movement named ‘Off the corset’ or ‘Escape the corset’ spread quickly over all of the Korean women.

The movement ‘Off the corset’ is that a woman intends to take off their restrictions, which is enhanced by artificial feminine traits. In the middle of the 17th century, a corset is an undergarment to be worn commonly by many women, only for emphasizing their bodies as a sexual function. After that, a corset became a symbol of women’s objectification as well as beauty obsession. A lot of women died due to too much strong pressure on their corset. Their waist, which was believed to be only a bone, wasn’t able to hold the corset’s pressure; as a result, they were dying by being suffocated by that destructive underwear. In 20th century, a corset became a kind of concept, describing a variety of objects that could restrict women; for example, a lot of cosmetics, dresses, high heels, and etc.

Continuously, in South Korea, there was a huge amount of demonstration that was consisted of only Korean women. People called it, ‘Uncomfortable courage.’ When these demonstrations began, the Korean government has announced that a woman who committed a crime was arrested immediately, but a man committed a crime was not conducted investigation at all. For instance, in the Hong-ik University, a female model was arrested by police because she took a photo of a nude male, and uploaded the picture on the website named “WOMAD”. This woman’s reason was to get revenge on a male model who didn’t follow the rule of wearing clothes during resting time, but people ignored her complaints. She was definitely an offender; however, many Korean males had already committed crimes taking photos of women’s bodies in a public places, especially public washrooms. The Korean government has undoubtedly missed them on purpose or discharged little punishment. How is this situation explained without a gender division? What are the causes of these discriminated rules?

For a long time, a woman’s body has been under men’s control. Men divided many women’s bodies into their instinctive beauty standard; an admired woman, and others. It was a man’s rights to make a woman look certain way. The right for women’s freedom became hidden behind men’s sexual desire. Why were they dominated by men like animals? Well, most people may answerded, “I don’t know exactly,” But two genders are obviously not on the same social plane. It is an evident that this discrimination have often occurred many times in South Korea. Even though the demonstration ‘Uncomfortable courage’ ended in December 2018, we are fighting with Korea, which is an androcentric society.

What are the effects of this movement? There are a variety of beneficial effects from ‘Off the corset.’ The first effect is that women will stop changing the appearances for men. By taking off their own corset, such as cosmetics, maintaining the thinnest weight, dangerously high heels, and etc, women will focus on their true life, maintaining their distance from men.

The second effect is that it can reconstruct a woman’s basic standard. No matter how beautiful or ugly a woman looks, all women are always suffocated by a beauty standard based on male-dominated society. This beauty standard is too hard. For example, when we wear a dress with a lot of accessories, we usually feel uncomfortable, but others who don’t wear the dress feel satisfied by seeing the well-designed woman. If you feel comfortable wearing the complicated dress, you are a very thick-skinned person, or you have already consumed a lot of your energy learning to wear makeup or dress quickly. An androcentric society makes women trapped in the artificial beauty standard. The way women can break this destructive standard against women is to rebuild their own standard in the world. The most important effect is to destroy men’s power. While men can stand themselves without being well-decorated or wearing jewelry, a woman must prove their existence by decorating their faces and bodies. Isn’t it unfair? If women acted the same human as men, they would be unnecessary to attach an extra artifact on their faces and bodies. However, many women are forced to wear makeup on their faces in order to live in a patriarchy society. To remove makeup on our faces is the first step to approach an advanced world, and also to break patriarchy completely.

How do we take off the corset? It can be easier to be off the corset if you follow these instructions. First, recognize yourself. To escape your beauty obsession is that you should know who you are. Next, make your list what you want to stop doing. You can think about what it is forced by men who were dominating. After that, you should practice living without your corset. You just realized that your corset has made you be a doll for men. As a result, the last step is that you should just stand for yourself. It is not difficult for us at all to break free from our corset like a trap.

We are fighting with patriarchy right now. This is our present domicile. Many people believe that it is just a bullshit, but we know it is the last-ditch stand. And also, we should shout out, “You’re a bullshit!” to the people who forced women thorough male-dominated world’s rules.

That is my second essay.
Isn't it weird? I think it is too awkward.
