We sadly have to contact you, as the Korean News Media is openly trying to manipulate the public opinion with invented pointers to persuade the public and manipulate their opinions.
Each News channel has been spreading lies for years about different celebrities, that have even contributed to suicide of several celebrities in the past.
Their belief is to discredit a celebrity with every possible lie, till they break!
In general Korea has a big issue with bullying culture, which is well known with every citizen and also News Outlet. sadly they are on the forefront normalizing this behavior!
The lates case of media bullying with lies and public opinion manipulation that led to a suicide was actor Actor Lee Sun-kyun, who received high praise for his work in Parasite.
According to the LA times, in 2 months, SK media published nearly 3,000 online news reports about Lee.
Nearly 40 SK celebrities commited suicide since 2000.
In response, Kakao chose to eliminate the comments section for entertainment articles.
However, Naver, akin to Google, chose to only use “cleanbots” to hide posts containing "unpleasant" language, maintaining the comments.
In an interview conducted by Weekly Asia, Psychology professor Lim Myung-ho of Dankook University, noted South Korea’s efficient digital connectivity and widespread social media networks provided fertile ground for online bullies hiding behind online anonymity and the media outlets are making money with those online bullies and spread even more sensational news with no fact-checking.
There is a reason why South Korean's trust in the news is generally low, with only 31% of respondents trusting the news (2024).
Sadly their media play and manipulation of public opinion is being repeated with the news about BTS member Suga.
He drove an e-scooter last week to his home while intoxicated. He was fined by the police and the driving permit was revoked. That is all the available information.
But the Media is on a field trip with any kind of made up story. Quoting that the police told them, without even one source mentioned by not 1 news outlet.
South Korean law prohibits those involved in a criminal investigation from releasing facts about the investigation and the suspect before a public indictment is released.
And yet the details of an investigation seem to be free for any and every reporter without the police ever making a statement!
The bullying culture is getting out of hands and all that matters to them is spreading misinformation as real fact and to already manipulate public opinion, so that when the truth and real facts are out and confirmed by the police, the public will not even pay attention to it, as they have already made up their minds. News Outlets are doing this on purpose and enjoy bullying individuals till they have a mental breakdown so they can also profite from that storyline.
This cycle has to be stopped and the civilians and real journalists have to be protected.
As one of your role is “Opposes discrimination of all kinds and condemns the use of media as propaganda or to promote intolerance and conflict.” we strongly hope you can start an investigation in Korean Media Press culture to take those pushing for a bullying culture that even turns to suicide culture, can be finally filtered out as bad journalists and true journalists can finally have a chance to work in that field and do ethically correct journalism based on facts and truth!
Based on major texts of international law, in particular the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It contains 16 articles plus a preamble and defines journalists’ duties and rights regarding ethics.
