1992년에 결성한 독일의 5인조 밴드 풀스 가든의 네 번째 앨범에

수록된 Lemon tree 단 한 곡으로 유럽과 아시아를 강타했던 그룹.

복고풍의 사운드와 특유의 재기 발랄함은 그들이

'비틀즈의 자식들'이라고 까지 했을 정도. 그룹의 사운드 메이커이자

기타리스트인 폴커 힌켈(Volker Hinkel)이 열렬한 비틀즈 팬이라고

하며 Lemon tree, Probably, Suzy등이 알려진 대표곡.

이 노래의 제목에 쓰인 lemon이란 단어는 의외로 별로 좋지않은

의미로 많이 쓰이는데 영국 속어로는 바보, 멍청이란 뜻도 있고,
특히 자주 쓰이는 경우는 결함이 있는 물건이나
불량품을 가리킬 때 lemon이라고 한다.

Meat Loaf의 노래 중에
Life is lemon and I want my money back 내 인생은 레몬(?) 같애.
그러니 내 돈 돌려줘 란 희한한 곡도 있다.
이 노래에선 주위에 온통 lemon tree밖에 없다고 하는데,
수많은 나무 중에 왜 하필이면 lemon tree 일까?

아마도 그건 lemon이란 단어가 풍기는 뉘앙스처럼 기분이 썩 좋지

않음을 나타내려 한게 아닐까 생각된다.
