Rolling Stones라는 Band는 우리 나라에서 많은 사람들이 알고 있으나
한편으로는 대다수의 사람들이 전혀 모르는 Band이며 Rolling Stones가
Concert를 열었을 때 세계 유일하게 흥행에 실패할 나라가 우리 나라가
아닐까 할 정도로 국내에서 저 평가받고 있는 Band다. 대부분의 사람들이
As Tear Go By, Angie 등의 발라드와 전에 반영된 TV. 외화 시리즈
머나먼 정글로 표현되는 Paint It Black 정도만을 떠올린다.
그러나 현존하는 밴드 중에서 이들만큼 지속적으로 세계인들의 사랑을
받고 팬들의 추앙을 받는 Group도 드물다. 특히 서구에서는 남녀노소를
불문하고 Concert 한 번 보고 온 것을 일생의 자랑으로 여길 정도로
대단한 평가를 받고 있다. 1962년 Muddy Waters의 곡명에서 따온
떠돌이들(장돌뱅이)이라는 뜻의 Rolling Stones를 출범시킨 그들은,
초기 흑인 R&B를 굴림으로 시작하여 PSYCHEDELIC, COUNTRY 등
다양한 스타일의 음악을 구사하며 점점 발전시켜 현재 오늘에 이르고 있다.
60년대 당시 비틀즈의 거센 열풍 속에서도 영향을 받지 않고 독자적인
노선을 걸은 것도 돌이켜 생각해보면 그들만이 가진 힘이라 생각된다.
오랜 세월동안 거의 Member 교체 없이 지금까지 온 것을 보면 경이롭기도
하며 곧 60의 나이를 바라보는 현재까지 왕성한 활동을 하고 있는 걸
보면 존경심마저 느껴지며 Paint It Black은 베트남 전쟁을 소재로 한 영화
