Please take this letter as an error on the Korea VS. Switzerland game, which was held on June 24, 2006 at Hannover, Germany. At the first half of the game, there were numerous and unjustifiable fouls, such as when Nam Il Kim, A Korean player, was tackled but ironically, he received a foul. During the second half of the game, approximately at 78 minutes, Hedi Frei, Swiss player, scored a goal after the referee’s flag went up, showing that it was an offside play. However, Horacio Elizondo, the referee, counted the goal, ignoring the flag that went up. According to FIFA Law of the game’s Law 11-Offside decision 2, tells that it was clear offside. Moreover, Horacio Elizondo, the referee, was the ONLY ONE to admit that the goal was valid. Also, in a penalty area, Patrick Mueller, a Switzerland player had made three fouls of handball. Nevertheless, Horacio Elizondo, the referee, seemed to refuse to acknowledge the right decision. We never heard a single sound of a whistle after those fouls and the game kept on going. This game was very ironical and controversial. We are not the only one saying that it wasn’t justified. ESPN, a credible American Sports Network, agreed that the goal was evidently offside. The Horacio Elizondo referee had given 10 yellow cards, in all of his games. Please ask yourself, was the game that tough? I strongly disagree. I believe justice exists in this world and I believe that the justice will soon unveil itself. I respect FIFA giving us the opportunity to participate in soccer at an international level but others and I can’t admit that it was a fair game. You are the one who can show the world that justice is alive and exists in this world. Please take this into deep consideration on behalf of the children growing with hope of playing the World Cup soccer games. All we ask you to do is to reconsider whether the game was fair or not. Thank you.
