영화 '드림걸스 (Dreamgirls)'는

70년대 가수 다이애나 로스가 이끌던 흑인 여성 트리오

'슈프림즈(Supremes)' 를 모델로 한 작품으로

1981년 제작된 동명의 뮤지컬은 토니상 6개 부문을 석권하기도 했다.

 

원작 뮤지컬에서 Jennifer Holliday가 맡았던 에피라는 역할은

그룹 '드리메츠(Dreamettes)' 의 리더였다가, 그룹이 점점 인기를 얻으면서

디나에게 리드싱어의 자리와 매니저이자 애인의 마음마저 빼앗기게된다.

그 장면에서 에피가 부른 "and I am telling you I'm not going"은

뮤지컬 사상 가장 슬픈 노래 중 하나라고 한다.

 

이 음악을 처음 들은건 뮤지컬에서가 아니라

휘트니 휴스턴의 라이브 장면이 처음이었는데,

얼마전에 오리지널 뮤지컬 팀이 부른걸 보니, 역시 원곡이 최고다 싶었다.

하지만 이번에 개봉한 영화 "드림걸즈"에서 에피역할을 맡은

제니퍼 허드슨의 노래도 정말 애절했다.

지금 영화를 다운받아놓고 이걸 다 보고싶은걸 꾹꾹 참고

2월 22일 국내개봉하면 큰 화면으로 꼭 극장에서 보련다.
