저도 미국대학교에서 영어영문학과를 전공하고 있는 사람으로서, 또 한국에서 책을 쓰는 사람으로서, 이번 사건이 미칠 여파에 대해 "어린 유학생"들을 위해 이 글을 올린 것입니다. 범인이 한국사람이라는 것이 밝혀진지 얼마 안되서 말이죠. 미국에 15년 넘게 살았던 사람으로서 미국 일반인들의 시각이 어떨지 한국의 언론에서 전혀 알 길이 없기도 하고, 어린 한국유학생들이 한국 언론기사를 보고 행여나 미국 아이들한테 따지다가 불상사가 일어날 까봐 조바심이 나서 쓴 심정도 없지 않아 있습니다. 그러나 약속했던 데로 악플을 번역하는 것보다 (이미 몇 분이 해주셨으므로) 제 싸이에 어린 유학생들의 영어대처법이라는 글을 썼습니다.
미국에 유학하고 있는 한국 중/고등학생들이 염려되신 다면 이 글을 추천해 주시기 바랍니다.

뉴욕에 유학중인 사람입니다.
미국도 한국과 마찬가지로 악플러들이 많이 가는 싸이트가 있습니다.
그런 싸이트들에서 한국인에 대한 보복성 글들이 점점 많이 올라오고 있습니다.
특히 실명을 사용하는 facebook 같은 싸이트에서도 한국을 까대는 글들이 점점 올라오고 있고, 모
든 언론에서 범인에 대해 특집 프로그램을 방영하고 있습니다.
물론 "South Korean"이라고 소개를 하고 있죠.
그 살인마를.
제가 이 글을 쓰는 이유는 미국에 있는 어린 유학생들이 걱정이 되어서입니다.
한국사람들이 많이 없는 곳에서 특히 눈에 띄는 게 한국학생들인데, 중학교/고등학교 다니는 학생
들은 조심했으면 좋겠습니다.
Better to be safe than sorry 라는 말도 있잖아요.
원래 이런 일이 일어나면 대중은 잠시 충격에 빠져 아무것도 못하지만, 충격에서 조금씩 헤어 나
오게 되면 그보다 훨씬 큰 분노감을 느끼게 되고, 분노감은 결국 보복심으로 이어질 공산이
큽니다.
9.11 테러사건 후, 이라크 침공에 대한 미국인들의 지지율이 70%가 넘었습니다.
물론 한국에서는 이 사건을 한국사람, 나아가 한국이라는 국가와 결부 시키지 않으려고 많은
노력을 하겠지만 미국에서는 그와 반대로 나아갈 가능성이 높습니다.
어린 유학생들은 괜히 미국인들의 심정을 자극하지 않았으면 좋겠습니다.
예를 들어 "미국에서 총을 자유롭게 구할 수 있으니 이런 일이 일어나는 것 아니냐"라고 말했다
가는 무슨 봉변을 당할지 걱정이 됩니다.

This kid was fed up with not being part of the crowd. Most likely he was marginalized for being foreign and Korean -emasculated by the presence of the super-jocks, and isolated by the self-contained VA campus. That shit would drive most people crazy, not saying that resorting to shooting 32 people is excusable. This kid probably was ignored and pretty much was reduced to becoming a loner on a campus that overwhelmed him. Imagine on a friday night, you're sitting in your dorm room, and you hear crowds of kids going places, socializing, and enjoying themselves, but you can't seem to get in.
OH GREAT, LETS BLAME THE WHOLE KOREAN NATIONALITY

I need some way of expressing my outrage. Is this fair? Maybe not. But it's not fair to kill innocent students either. So I'm done buying there crappy wilting lettuce while they stare at me like I'm a criminal.

South Korean Embassy Issues An Apology

CNN is reporting that the shooter was a South Korean National
who was a legal resident of this country and his family lives in
the Virginia area and apparently they speak very little English.
The South Korean Embassy has issued an apology to Virginia Tech
and the Asian Student Society there described the shooter as a "loner"
who was not involved in their activities and about whom they knew
almost nothing.

The gunman was a crazy South Korean. This doesn't surprise me at all as Koreans are very unstable people. I've known a couple of Koreans who've had emotional problems.
Stay away from Koreans, they are basket cases!
