The solider saw his lifelong freind fall in battle.

Caught in a trench, he asked his lieutenant if he might go out to bring his freind back.

"You can go," said the lietenant, "but your friend is probably dead and you may throw your life away."

The lieutenan's words didn't matter, and managed to reach his friend, hoist him onto his shoulder, and bring him back to their company's trench.

The offiver checked the wounded soldier, then looked at his friend.

 " I told you it wouldn`t be worth it." he said.

The private answered, "No, it was worth it. When I got to him, he was still alive, and I heard him say,

'Jim, I knew you'd com.'"

그 병사는 자신의 평생 친구가 전투에서 쓰러지는 것을 보았다.

참호 속에 갇힌 채, 그는 나가서 자신의 친구를 데리고 와도 되는지 중위에게 물어보았다.

중위는 "가도 좋다. 하지만 네 친구는 아마 죽었을 것이고 너는 목숨을 버리는 것일지도 모른다."

라고 말했다.

중위의 말은 문제가 되지 않았고 그 병사는 어쨌든 나갔다.

기적적으로 그는 친구에게 다가가서 그를 어깨에 들쳐 매고, 중대 참호로 그를 데리고 돌아올수 있었다.

그 장교는 부상당한 병사를 살펴보고는 그의 친구를 쳐다봤다.

 그는 "그럴만한 가치가 없을 것이라고 내가 말했지." 라고 말했다.

그 이등병은 대답했다. "아니오, 그럴 만한 가치가 있었습니다. 제가 그에게 갔을때 그는 아직 살아있었고, 나는 그가 'Jim, 나는 네가 올 줄 알았어.' 라고 말하는 것을 들었습니다."
