하나님께서는
우리가 주님을 경배하라고 명하시며
참된 기도는 예배의 행위이라고 하신다.
기도란
영혼이 하나님 앞에서 부복할때,
하나님의 크고 거룩한 이름을 부를때,
하나님의 선하심과 능력과
변치 않으심과 은혜를 고백할때,
하나님의 뜻에 복종함으로
그분의 권세를 승인할때,
비로소 예배의 행위가 된다.
바로 이런 의미에서
그리스도께서 성전을
'제사하는 집'이라 하시지 않고
'기도하는 집'이라 하신 것은
대단히 의미 있는 일이다.

God requires
that we shall worship Him and prayer,
real prayer,
is an act of worship.
Prayer is an act of worship
inasmuch as it is the prostrating of
the soul before Him;
inasmuch as it is a calling upon
His great and holy name;
inasmuch as it is the owning of
His goodness,
His power,
His immutability,
His grace;
and inasmuch as it is the recognition of
His sovereignity,
owned by a submission to His will.
It is highly significant to notice
in this connection
that the Temple was not termed
by Christ the House of Sacrifice,
but instead, the House of Prayer.
