Are you aware of what you make me feel, baby
Right now I feel invisible to you, like I'm not real
Didn't you feel me lock my arms around you
Why'd you turn away?
Here's what I have to say
I was left to cry there, waiting outside there
Burning with a lost stare
That's when I decided
Why should I care
'Cuz you weren't there when I was scared
I was so alone
You, you need to listen
I'm starting to trip, I'm losing my grip
And I'm in this thing alone
Am I just some chick you place beside you to take somebody's place
When you turn around can you recognize my face
You used to love me, you used to hug me
But that wasn't the case
Everything wasn't okay
I was left to cry there, waiting outside there
Burning with a lost stare
That's when I decided
Crying out loud
I'm crying out loud
Crying out loud
I'm crying out loud
Open your eyes
Open up wide
Why should I care
'Cuz you weren't there when I was scared
I was so alone
Why should I care
'Cuz you weren't there when I was there
I was so alone
Why should I care
If you don't care then I don't care
We're not going anywhere
"Losing Grip" is the fourth single and last single (except in Australia and New Zealand where "Mobile" was released) from Avril Lavigne's top 5 album Let Go. It was released in late spring of 2003 after the success of "I'm with You". The song was written and produced by Avril Lavigne and C. Magness. The song is much heavier than most of the songs on Let Go that had a more poppy feel (possibly the explanation of its weak success). It is about Lavigne "losing grip" with her boyfriend as they are just not meant to be. "Don't Tell Me", the first single from her second album Under My Skin, is said to almost be a follow-up or part two of the song as Avril tells her boyfriend she does not want him because of his sexually-rude behavior.
The video for "Losing Grip" shows Lavigne and her band performing on stage in front of a crowd.
Charts
"Losing Grip" is Avril's third weakest United States single to date, before the disappointments of "Fall to Pieces" and "Hot". It failed to reach the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100, only peaking at #64. However, it did get moderate chart success elsewhere, charting at #22 in the UK, in Ireland at #18, and in Australia at #20. It was also another #1 hit for Lavigne in Hong Kong.
