L'etoile souffrante

언덕 위의 소나무가 될 수 없다면

골짜기의 잡목이 되어라, 그러나

시냇가의 제일 좋은 잡목이 되어라.

나무가 될 수 없다면 덤불이 되어라.

덤불이 될 수 없다면 한 포기 풀이 되어라.

그래서 길거리를 더욱 아름답게 만들어라.

 사향나무가 될수 없다면 참피나무가 되어라.

그러나 호수에서 가장 생명력있는 참피나무가 되어라.

모두가 선장이 될 수는 없듯 선원이 되는 이도 있으리라

누구에게나 여기서 할 일은 있다.

그것이 큰일이 될수도 있고 좀더 작은 일이 될수도 있다.

그리고 우리가 해야할일들은 우리 가까이에 있다.

큰 길이 될 수 없다면 오솔길이 되어라.

태양이 될 수 없다면 별이 되어라.

실패와 성공은 크기에 있는 것이 아니니

무엇이 되든 가장 좋은 것이 되어라.

( 다른사람을 모방하지말자. )

( 우리자신을 발견하자..그리고 우리자신이 되자. )

( 나는 나 아닌 다른사람이 될수없기에... )

If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill

Be a scrub in the valley-but be

The best little scrub by the side of the rill;

Be a bush, If you can't be a tree.

If you can't be a bush, be a bit of the grass,

And some highway happier make;

If can't muskie, then just be a bass-

But the liveliest bass in the lake!

We can't all be captains, we've got to be crew,

There something for all of us here.

There's big work to do and there's lesser to do

And the task we must do is the near.

If you can't be a highway, then just be a trail,

If you can't be the sun, be a star;

It isn't by size that you win or fail-

Be the best of whatever you are!
