믿음은 바라는 것들의 실상이요 보지 못하는
것들의 증거니
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see.
선진들이 이로써 증거를 얻었느니라
This is what the ancients were commended for.
믿음으로 모든 세계가 하나님의 말씀으로 지어진
줄을 우리가 아나니 보이는 것은 나타난 것으로
말미암아 된 것이 아니니라
By faith we understand that the universe was formed
at God's command, so that what is seen was not
made out of what was visible.
아브라함은 시험을 받을 때에 믿음으로 이삭을 드렸으니
저는 약속을 받은 자로되 그 독생자를 드렸느니라
By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac
as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises
was about to sacrifice his one and only son.
믿음으로 모세가 났을 때에 그 부모가 아름다운 아이임을
보고 석 달 동안 숨겨 임금의 명령을 무서워 아니하였으며
By faith Moses' parents hid him for three months after
he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary
child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict.
믿음으로 모세는 장성하여 바로의 공주의 아들이라
칭함을 거절하고
By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused
to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daugther.
도리어 하나님의 백성과 함께 고난받기를 잠시 죄악의
낙을 누리는 것보다 더 좋아하고
He chose to be mistreated along with the people of
God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sins for
a short time.
그리스도를 위하여 받는 능욕을 애굽의 모든 보화보다
더 큰 재물로 여겼으니 이는 상 주심을 바라봄이라
He regared disgrace for the sake of Christ as of
greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because
he was looking ahead to his reward.
믿음으로 애굽을 떠나 임금의 노함을 무서워 아니하고
곧 보이지 아니하는 자를 보는것같이 하여 참았으며
By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger;
he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.
믿음으로 저희가 홍해를 육지같이 건넜으나 애굽 사람들은
이것을 시험하다 빠져 죽었으며
By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on
dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they
were drowned.
믿음으로 칠 일 동안 여리고를 두루 다니매 성이 무너졌으며
By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had
marched around them for seven days.

믿음은 하나님이 세상을 보시는 방식으로 볼 수 있도록
우리의 눈을 여는 방법이다.
우리는 보통 우리가 물리적으로 볼 수 없는 것에 대해서는
우리가 보는 것을 토대로 결론을 내린다.
우리는 우리가 알고 있는 것에 대한 증거를 수집한 다음,
모르는 것을 추론한다.
복음적인 앎은 이와 정반대 방식이다. 하나님은 우리의
영적 감각을 일깨워우셔서 우리가 볼 수 없는 것에
기초해 우리가 보는것들을 이해하게 하신다.
