I'm a JYJ fan from Egypt. me and family voted for Jeju Island for the sake of JYJ.

We loved korea because of JYJ. when we are buying any stuff like cars, electronics,..etc

we check & buy the korean merchandise.
but now we are starting to feel mad at the unfair treatment against JYJ for the sake of other powerfull entities.

our love is starting to be directed only to JYJ and not for korea as well and

I feel like we were even cheated along with JYJ to vote for Jeju Island

I 'm an Australian fan of JYJ who has always been intrigued by S Korea without knowing much about it.

Becoming a fan of JYJ has taught me a lot - & not much of it is good.

The international fandom is very aware of the corruption,

abuse & exploitation endemic in S Korea's entertainment industry - & is infuriated & repelled by it.

We vote with our money, refusing to buy or support Korean products.

Rest assured that we share our disgust of S Korea's economic dictatorship with EVERYONE we know.

한국에 대해서 잘은 모르지만 항상 한국에 매력을 가지고 있었습니다.

JYJ팬이 됨으로써 많은 걸 알 수 있었습니다, 다 좋은것은 아니었구요.

I'm from Europe, Lithuania. My whole family love JYJ. We all voted for Jeju and also asked friends to help.

If JYJ will not appear on KBS we all will be very sad and will change our voices (we are not as good as Jae – sorry).

It's really disrespectful and shameful for Korean national television KBS to be SM dog. Also it sad,

but international fans now view Korea in different way. My family wanted to visit S.Korea and Jeju in November.

Not anymore. We could not respect that kind of corruption.

According to media reports, popular K-pop trio JYJ plan to file a complaint against Korean TV station KBS for cancelling the group’s scheduled TV appearance on Wednesday night in a concert to promote Jeju Island, which hopes to be one of the New7Wonders of Nature. In May, JYJ became honorary ambassadors for Jeju.

Responding to the KBS cancellation, band member Kim Jaejoong tweeted: “If there’s an obstacle in the way blocking the promotion of our country’s natural landscape then I’ll just promote it myself.” He then added: “@gentlechan If 100,000 people tweet a picture of Jeju Island, won’t at least 20 million people learn of it?” Kim Jaejoong also changed his Twitter profile picture to a picture of Jeju Island.

The KBS cancellation is seen in some quarters as collateral damage in a broader battle between JYJ and SM Entertainment, an independent Korean record label, talent agency, producer and publisher of pop music. A Soompi.com profile of SM Entertainment founder, Lee Soo Man, created the picture of an ambitious, visionary K-pop figure, who is not afraid to drive a hard bargain.

“However, there are also some concerns over SME’s growing control over the entire industry. One of them is the on-going lawsuit with JYJ, or the three former members of DBSK. Since the fallout from DBSK last year over contract disputes with SME, JYJ has not been able to land much TV spots nor freely promote their album in Korea — and many fans suspect SME might be putting ‘backdoor pressure’ on local broadcasters as well as industry officials in order to hamper the trio’s promotions as a group. There’s no proof to it, but the recent controversy over KBS and JYJ may also be an indication to the ‘backdoor pressure,’ since JYJ was replaced by SNSD and f(x), two SM artists, on a special KBS TV show. It was reported that KBS abruptly canceled JYJ’s scheduled appearance on its special show for Jeju Island’s Seven Wonders Concert, four days prior to the live broadcast, and JYJ is currently planning to file a compliant as well as a lawsuit over this issue.”

KBS제주의 공식적인 기만사태에 관한 한류의 국제 소비자들의 입장문

We, USAlovesJYJ and our allies listed below, hereby condemn the actions of the Korea Broadcasting Systems (hereafter “KBS”) for its deplorable breaking of public trust with regards to the unjustified cancellation of JYJ’s public television appearance in connection with the New 7 Wonders of the Natural World promotional campaign for Jeju Island. It is disappointing that we are compelled for the second time this year to internationally shame KBS for its anti-democratic actions that are contrary to the values of our community.
우리 USAlovesJYJ와 아래 리스트된 연합은 한국 공영방송 KBS(이하 KBS라 칭한다)가 세계 7대자연경관 캠페인과 관련하여 공공의 책임을 개탄스럽게도 스스로 깨뜨린, JYJ의 공식 TV출연의 부당한 취소를 한 것에 대하여 비난을 표하는 바이다.
KBS’ deception, extortion, theft and collusion with external forces come at the expense of international consumers of the Korean Wave, many of whom are suffering prejudicial financial damages as a result of KBS’ unlawful and unilateral decision. However, the greatest damage perpetrated by KBS has been on the international image of Korea and against the people of Jeju Island. Due to the failure of the relevant South Korean authorities to reform the status quo of the Korean pop cultural contents industry, Korean and international citizens alike are witnessing an intolerable scenario: the betrayal on the part of a nationally-owned media institution against its own people, nation and public for the sake of corrupt, private interests. At this rate, the Korean Wave is in danger of becoming a target of criticism by the international press and an exemplary case study of what not to do in the area of cultural development.
외압에 의한 KBS의 기만, 공갈 또는 도둑질이나 다름없는 공모는 국제 한류소비자들의 손실을 초래하였으며, KBS의 비합법적이며 일방적인 결정에 의해 많은 해외한류소비자에게 금전적인 손해또한 끼쳤다고 할 수 있다. 하지만 무엇보다 막대한 손실은 KBS의 어리석음으로 한국의 국제적인 이미지가 손상되었으며, 제주도에 대한 반감을 산 것일것이다. 어떤 한국인 권력자에 의해 한국의 대중문화 산업의 상황이 좌지우지 하려는것과 관련된 사태로 인해서 한국인들과 마찬가지로 외국인들도 또한 그 참을 수 없는 시나리오를 목격하게 되었다 : 한 국영 방송 기관의 내통으로 그들의 시청자를 우롱하고, 사적인 이익을 추구하여 국가와 공공의 이익은 붕괴 되어버린 것을 말이다. 이러다가 한류는 국제적인 언론의 조롱거리 뿐만 아니라, 문화적 발전에 있어 절대로 그렇게 되어서는 안될 본보기가 되어버릴 기세다.
We therefore recognize that this incident is much bigger than simply JYJ. It has already damaged popular international confidence in the Republic of Korea as a sovereign democracy governed by the rule of law for the protection of her citizens. We call on the Government of the Republic of Korea—in particular the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports and the Korea Fair Trade Commission—to make the Korean cultural contents industry the next frontier for democratization and Korea’s anti-corruption agenda. Otherwise we, as the international consumers that attach value to the Korean Wave, would regret to have to declare the Korean Wave as having fallen to Junk status.
따라서 우리는 이번 사건이 단지 JYJ가 연루 되었다는 것 이상으로 더 심각한 사실임을 인지하였다. 하지만 이미, 군주제가 통용되는것이나 다름없는 한국의 민주적 룰에 의해서 국제적인 신뢰에는 지대한 손상을 입게되었다. 우리는 한국의 문화콘텐츠산업가 한계를 넘어 평등과 부패추방을 실현할때까지 정부가 군림하는 한국이라고 부를 것이다. 특히 문화부에 있어서 관광, 스포츠 그리고 공정무역의회 모두다. 한류를 아끼는 우리 해외한류팬들은 한류가 이처럼 하찮게 추락했다는 것에 유감을 표하는 바이다.
