드디어 뉴델리에 도착했다. 나를 반기는 것은 길거리에 있는 공중화장실.

공중도 너무 공중화장실이다. 찌린내가.....-_-ㅗ

we came to New Delhi. the 1st thing i saw is the super public toilet.

too much public. and too smelly!!!

인도 친구가 사는 기숙사에 도착했다.

came to dormitory where my Indian friend lived.

스리잔 등장! 스리잔은 우리 대학교에서 한국어를 공부했다. 그래서 알게 됐음.ㅎㅎ

Srijan! he studied Korean language in my university so we became friends.

이때부터 약 2주간, 휴식을 취했다.

인도의 더운 날씨와 계속되는 안 좋은 일들(식중독, 납치, 거지 같은 카우치서퍼 등등)로 인해 완전히 지쳐버렸기 때문이다.

너무 괴로워서 여행을 포기하고 한국에 돌아갈까 라는 생각도 했다.

때마침 몸살도 심했고 발톱이 반쯤 나가서 걷기도 힘들었다.

지금 생각해보면 아무것도 아닌데 그때는 왜 그렇게 힘들었는지 모르겠다.

하여간 이때 집으로 돌아가지 않은 이유는 '세계일주 한다고 떠났는데 6개월 만에 돌아가면 쪽팔리니까'이다.

안 돌아가길 잘했다. 돌아갔으면 진짜로 쪽팔릴 뻔했다.-_-

from this time, I took a rest about 2 weeks.

because of hot weather, many bad heppenings (kidnapping, food posion, shit couchsurfers so on) i was totally exhausted.

i was too painful mentally and physically. so i wanted to go back home.

at this moment, I was sick and I broke one toe. everything was bad.

finally I didn't go back home. if I had gave up this travel in this way, I would be disappointed with myself.

It was nice choice. I think now.

휴식을 끝내고 '쉼라'로 가는 길.

(지금부터 델리로 다시 돌아올 때까지는 기차를 이용해서 여행한다.)

여성 전용 창구인데 남자들이 더 많다. 여자들을 밀치고 기차표를 사는 남자들.

이 풍경을 보고 있자니 '여성의 인권은 어디에 있나' 하는 생각이 든다.

근데 표 파는 사람이 여자다.-_- 내가 저 여자라면 남자들한테 표 안 팔 듯.

this is lady's counter but there were more guys.

WTF??? guys were just buying tickets with ignoring the ladies.

where is the right of lady???

the seller was woman. If I were that woman, I wouldn't sell the ticket to guys.

인도 기차에서 가장 낮은 등급인 General Class.

the lowest train class, General Class.

기차를 탈 수도 없는 General Class. 대박이다.

이때 차표가 없어서 General Class 표를 샀는데 이 풍경을 보고 들어갈 생각조차 하지 않았다.

그냥 옆 칸의 2nd Class에 들어갔다. 몰래.

even they can't get a place in the train. this is General Class.

we couldn't get tickets for higher class than General Class.

when we saw this situation, even we didn't try to get in.

we just went into 2nd Class. in secret.

기차를 타고 한참이 지났는데도 가야할 역이 나타나지 않았다.

알고 보니 이 기차는 중간에 기차가 두 부분으로 분리되어 하나는 북쪽으로 하나는 서쪽으로 간다나?

우리는 북쪽으로 가야했는데.........-_-.......이런....이런 경우가.....OTL

it had been quite long time. but we couldn't get the destination.

the reason is that the train was separated in two parts then one was going to North, another is going to West.

we had to go for North but we were in Western part.-_-

할 수 없이 버스를 타야 했다.

버스터미널에 갔는데 표를 사려고 줄 선 광경이 가관이다.

손이 긴 사람이 유리한 줄서기.ㅋㅋ 역시 인도다.-_-

we had to take a bus.

we went to bus station. that is how to make a queue in India.

버스를 타고 흙먼지가 풀풀 날리는 마을에 도착해서 하루 묵었다.

그리고 다음날 아침, 산악열차를 탔다.

아주 조그만 열차였는데 승객이 엄청 많았다. 서울의 지옥철 느낌. 죽는 줄 알았다.

그 안에 참혹한 광경을 사진으로 남기고 싶었지만 사진을 찍을 수 없을 정도의 상황이었다.-_-

we came to one town by bus. then slept there.

took a mountain train next morning.

it was very a small train. but too many passengers. just very very full. just very very hell.

i would take a picture there to memory hell scene. but even I couldn't take a picture.

쉼라에 도착해서 숙소를 찾는데 갑자기 우박을 동반한 폭우가 쏟아졌다.

엥??? 분명히 한 시간 전만 해도 하늘이 파랬는데.-_-

도저히 그칠 기미가 보이지 않았다. 그래서 비를 피하고 있던 숙소에 그냥 머물렀다.

근데 숙박비는 무려 1000루피. 약 20 USD. 너무 비쌌다.

we were looking for a accommodation. it started to rain and hailstorm suddenly.

OMG....I could see blue sky one hour before.

it seemd that it won't stop soon. so we just stayed in the accommodation where we were avoiding the rain and hailstorm.

but it was too expensive! 1000 IN, about 20 USD. but these was no option. the rain was too heavy.

쉼라는 인도 북부 산지에 있는 휴양지라 인도의 혹서기인 5, 6월이 성수기였다. (시원하니까)

그래서 사람이 많고 숙박비가 비쌌다.

Shimla is the resort place in the mountain, northern India.

so May and June which are hot season in India are high season.

in this season, there are many ppl and price is expensive.

쉼라에는 볼 게 없었다. 날씨가 선선해서 그냥 쉬다 갈까도 생각해봤지만 숙박비가 너무 비싸서 야간버스를 타고 맥그로드 간즈로 이동했다.

there was nothing to see in Shimla. but it was good weather. so I wanted to stay for a rest.

but accommodation was too expensive. we took a night bus then moved to Mcleod Ganj.

도착하자마자 Aya가 심하게 아팠다. 그래서 이틀 정도 아무것도 안 하고 숙소에만 있었다.

right after we arrived, Aya was so sick. so we just stayed in the room for recover.

사두, 힌두교 수행자. 근데 저 아저씨는 짭퉁인 듯.

Sadhu, Hindu Trainee.

Sadhu is the representitve image of India for me. but above one doesn't look real one.

같은 숙소에 머물던 한국인 여행자, 용현이와 함께 뒷산으로 등산을 갔다.

we went hiking with Yonghyun staying in same guesthouse.

원래는 상 정상 근처에 텐트를 치고 잘 생각이었는데 갑자기 먹구름이 끼더니 비가 쏟아지기 시작했다.

비가 그칠지도 모르니 그냥 올라갈까 하다가 발에 물집도 크게 나고 그래서 그냥 내려왔는데 다시 해가 쨍쨍하게 났다. 머피의 법칙.-_-

we were planning to set a tent near the peak then stay over night. but rain started.

I had a blister on my foot so it was difficult to walk. so just came down.

달라이 라마가 어렸을 때, 중국 정부의 위협을 피하기 위해 인도로 망명하였는데 그때 정착한 곳이 여기.

이런 문구를 보니 실향민들이 불쌍하게 느껴진다. 얼른 티벳에도 해 뜰 날이 찾아오기를.

Da Lai La Ma escaped from the China then settled down this town, India.

I thought that people are poor who can't go back to homdtown. I hope Tibet will be free as well.

델리로 돌아가는 길에 일반 야간버스를 탔다. 일반이라고 하면 ‘보통’이라는 뜻이 되겠지만 인도에서 ‘일반’은 그런 의미가 아니다.

버스가 계속 덜컹거리고 좌석도 불편하고 다른 승객들이 끊임없이 방해해서 한숨도 잘 수 없었다.

근데 놀라운 것은 이 버스를 입석으로 타고 가는 수많은 인도인들이 있다는 것. 자지도 않고 10시간 넘게 서서 버스를 타다니. 대박이다.

We took a normal night bus on the way to Delhi. 'Normal' doesn't mean 'Normal' in India.

The bus was shaking all the night and seat was really uncomfortable. so I couldn't sleep at all.

one surprising thing is that there were many Indian people taking the bus in standing P0SITION for over night.

No sleep, No seat for more than 10 hours. OMG.

델리에 도착해서 숙소로 가는 위해 릭샤를 탔는데 운전기사 녀석이 돈을 더 벌기 위해 먼 길로 돌아가더라.

지긋지긋한 인도, 이런 적이 한, 두 번이 아니다.-_-

하여간 화가 나서 멈추라고 하고 릭샤에서 내렸다. 근데 운전기사 여기까지의 요금을 내란다.

우리는 네가 우리를 속였으니 낼 수 없다고 맞섰다.

이렇게 몇 분 정도 실랑이를 벌였는데 갑자기 Aya 격노하더라.

일본어로 뭐라뭐라 쌍욕을 하더니 릭샤를 발로 찼다. 하도 세게 차서 릭샤가 출렁거렸다.

순간 그 표정과 자태가 너무 분노스러워서 당황했다. 그리고 무서웠다.

마치, 온순했던 고양이의 털이 쭈뼛 서면서 소리 지를 때의 모습이랄까?

어떻게 사람이 이렇게 순간적으로 변할 수 있지?

나를 발로 찰 때를 제외하고는 한 번도 화를 낸 적이 없는 Aya였기에 놀라움이 더 컸다.

하여간 이걸 본 릭샤 기사는 바로 도망갔다. 근데 나를 바를 찼을 때의 Aya가 이랬나? 그렇게 생각하니 식은땀이 흘렀다. 꿀꺽.

After we arrived in Delhi, we took a Ricksha (Indian taxi) to guesthouse. but the driver made a detour to get more money.

so we stopped the Ricksha then got off. the driver asked money. but we didn't pay because he was cheating us.

we were arguing for a couple of minutes. Suddenly, Aya was very angry.

she said something bad in Japanese language then kicked the Ricksha strongly. the driver was surprised then ran away. I was also surprised because I had never seen Aya making strong anger.

기차를 타고 갠지스강이 있는 바라나시에 왔다.

we came to Varanasi where there is Ganges river.

마을은 건물 사이로 좁은 골목길들이 나있는 형태인데 그 위를 수많은 소들이 돌아다니고 있었다.

이것들이 길을 막아 통행을 방해하고 똥, 오줌을 신나게 뿌리는데 그 냄새가 장난 아니다.

냄새가 너~어~무~ 고약함. 게다가 부록으로 파리떼까지.-_-

the town is consist of many small streets. there are many cows.

they block the street so it is not easy to pass. and make pee and shit much. smell is so terrible. in addition, tons of flies.

이곳에서 스리랑카에서 같이 여행했던 미나를 다시 만났다. 휴가라서 인도에 놀러왔다는데 이놈의 휴가는 매달 한 번씩 있는 듯.

하여간 다시 보니까 반가웠다.

I met Mina, Korean, who had traveled together in Sri Lanka. we came to India for holiday. it was nice to see her again.

갠지스강에서 처음 본 것은 시체를 태워 수장하는 모습이었다.

갠지스강은 힌두교에서 성스러운 강인데 인도 사람들은 죽고 난 후에 갠지스강에 들어가면 천국에 갈 수 있다고 믿는다.

그래서 수많은 사람들이 이 강에 묻힌다고 한다.

사진을 찍고 싶었지만 근처에 있던 사람들이 여기서는 사진을 찍으면 안 된다고 했다.

The 1st thing I saw is burning the corpse and burial in river.

Ganges is the holy river in Hinduism. Indian people believe that they can go to heaven if they are buried in Ganges.

so many people come here for being buried in the Ganges.

I wanted to take pictures. but the people near that said "you can't take pictures here". because it is a holy place.

갠지스강의 물은 더럽기로 유명한데 막상 와보니 생각한 것만큼 최악은 아니었다. 그래도 상당히 더러웠다.-_-

그나저나 이 동네 사람들은 갠지스강에서 샤워도 하고 빨래도 하고 설거지도 하고 그러는데 난 도저히 그럴 수 없겠더라.

The water of Ganges is so dirty. but the Indian people use that water for a shower, for laundry and for washing the dishes. I can't do them.

갠지스강 반대편은 휑하다. 그래도 사는 사람들이 있긴 한데 이들의 생활수준은 이쪽보다 떨어진다고 한다.

그럼 얼마나 못 산다는 거지? 상상이 안 간다.-_-

the opposite side of the river is empty. there are some people living there.

but the living condition of them are worse than this side. how poor they are.

Aya가 새벽 기차를 타고 네팔로 떠났다. 한 달 넘게 같이 지내다가 헤어지니 상당히 섭섭하고 아쉬웠다.

가끔 짜증나거나 화나는 적도 있었지만 고맙고 즐거운 기억이 더 많다.

같이 여행하면서 Aya를 통해 일본에 대해서 많이 알게 되었는데 일본은 정말 가깝지만 먼 나라라는 생각이 들었다.

우리나라랑 달라도 너무 달랐다. 하여간 유익한 경험이었다.

내 여행의 절정인 인도를 함께 여행해서 더 기억에 남는 친구, 최장기간 함께 여행했던 친구 Aya, Sayonara, arigato!

Aya left Varanasi to Nepal by train. we had been traveled together more than one month. it was sad to say good-bye.

there were many things happened in our travel. I could learn much about Japan through Aya. it was very nice experience.

Aya, the person who traveled with me for the longest time,

who spent the time in India for the highlight country in my trip. Thanks, see you again!

Kat과 Kiera를 다시 만났다!! 베트남 호스텔에서 사귄 친구들인데 비슷한 경로로 여행을 하고 있어서 베트남에서 한 번,

태국에서 한 번 봤었다. 그리고 인도에서 다시 한 번 조우!

I met Kat and Kiera again!! I know them from the hostel in Hanoi, Vietnam. we were traveling almost same route.

so we met in Vietnam and Thailand. then in India again. so happy to see them again.

사진을 찍고 점심을 먹고 헤어졌다. 이 친구들과는 터키쯤에서 다시 볼 예정.ㅎㅎ

after took pictures, we had lunch together then said good-bye. we are going to meet in Turkey again!

이렇게 바라나시 여행이 끝났다

바라나시는 정말 매력적인 곳인데 이때까지도 정신적, 육체적으로 힘들었던 터라 제대로 즐기지 못했다.

너무 아쉽다. 사진도 많이 안 찍고 동네 구경도 제대로 못한 듯. 나중에 다시 와야겠다.

Varanasi is a attractive place.

I was still tired of India mentally and physically so I couldn't enjoy the place well.

I didn't take many pictures and didn't walk around the town. shame on me. so I have to come back someday.
