Residents of the Wassa Akropong community in the Eastern Region have raised concerns over the uninhibited proliferation of Chinese sex workers in the locality.

Chinese prostitution takes over Wassa Akropong

According to the disgruntled residents, the Chinese sex workers are brought into the country by their male counterparts, who they believe are the pimps running the entire operation.

Wassa Akropong, in the Western Region, is a small town that has seen a great deal of small scale mining activities locally known as galamsey, operations that Chinese nationals have been heavily involved in in recent times.

“They normally charge between GH￠500 and GH￠ 1000 from their clients who are mostly foreigners and indigenous galamsey operators”, said a local resident who chose to remain anonymous.

Residents related that an even more worrying development is that certain military officers believed to have been deployed from Takoradi have been providing twenty-four hour security services for the Chinese sex workers.

According to Class FM's sources, certain hotels in Takoradi-Sekondi have been effectively become brothels in order to accommodate the perceived sex workers.

“The Wassa Akropong township has virtually turned into a Chinese town as night clubs, bar and pubs, game and bet centers, grocery shops and supermarkets have bill boards with Chinese inscr1ptions embossed on them”, the source added.
