Israel kamakawiwo'Ole

somewhere over the rainbow.

1997년 과체중으로 인한 호흡곤란으로 39세의 일기로 사랑하는 아내와 딸하나만을 남긴채 세상을 등진 하와이 원주민 출신인 Israel kamakawiwo'ole 이다.

 제 3세계 음악 쪽에서는 아주 유명한 가수로 IZ라는 애칭으로 불리우며 하와이의 토속적인 색채가 묻어나는 음악들을 작곡하고 노래하면서 하와이언에겐 사랑과 존경을 한몸에 받았던 음악인이자 좋은 영혼의 친구였다.

이 노래는 영화 오즈의 마법사 OST로도 사용 되었는데 하와이 민속기타인 상큼한 우크렐레의 반주에 맞춰 부르는 목소리는 영혼을 잠재우는 듯한 그의 목소리와 너무도 잘 어울렸던 곡이다.
