The Bridges of Madison County

“In a universe of ambiguity, this kind of certainty comes only once, and never again, no matter how many lifetimes you live.”

  From the novel, the bridges of Madison county, comes this famous line when Robert Kincaid tried to persuade Francesca to come with him leaving her family and everything in Madison county, Iowa.

  Robert is a photographer in National Geographic and comes to Madison county in order to take pictures of the bridges of Madison county and happens to meet Francesca there, who is a plain wife of two children and a faithful husband. It was more like a destiny. 

Among 6 bridges there, he could take pictures of 5 of them and couldn’t find the one bridge. He asked 3 people of the location of the one bridge only to fail finding the bridge. Finally he found a local house to ask the location, and there he met Francesca. At first sight, he felt love in Francesca and she did so. He was refreshment in the 20 years of her marriage. Since her husband and her children were busy with local fair and left her for 4 days and she was all alone in the house, so she suggested him helping him finding the bridge with accompanying him. And their love story starts….

The bridge has a cover which protects their love from other people’s sight so that nobody can interrupt their love. One night she post a invitation note on the bridge which reads

“If you’d like supper again ‘when white moths are on the wing,’ come by tonight after you’re finished. Anytime is fine.”

  So Robert stayed with her in her house until her husband and children return from the fair. They became desperately falling in love with each other, but she couldn’t leave her family in humiliation. In the 60s of the United States, one was emotionally dead if she had an extra-marital relationship, so she suppressed her love and decided to stay for her children.

 The one reason that makes their love pure and beautiful is that their love never faded in years and they kept their emotions for each other until they die. I wonder this kind of love and passion exist in this universe where dishonest and lies are easier to find than honest and truth...
