To the VIRGINS, To make much of TIME

Gather ye rosebud while ye may

Old time is still a flying

And this same flower that smiles today

Tomorrow will be dying

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun

The higher he's a getting

The sooner his race be run

And nearer he's to setting

That age is best which is the first

When youth and blood are warmer

But being spent, the worse and worst

Times still succeed the former

Then be not coy, but use your time

And, while ye may, go marry

For, having lost but once your prime

You may forever tarry.

  요새 배우는 American & English Literature(미국과 영어문학)시간에 배우는 시 중 내가 가장 맘에 들어하는 시이다.

  처음에는 이 사람의 뒷배경을 알고나니, " 뭐 이런사람이 다있어?

결혼은 안하고 이렇게 여자만 몇명이야?!!!그런데 virgin들에게 이런 말을 하다니!!! " 라며 분개를 했었다.

그런데 이 사람이 쓴 이 시를  알고나서 이 virgin의 의미를 알았다.

이건 virgin(처녀), 그러나 그가 쓴 의미는 youth(젊은 청년)을 겨냥하고 쓴 글이었다.
