빅뱅의 첫 번째 일본 미니앨범 [For The World]
2007년 국내 가요계를 뒤흔든 빅뱅의 여파가 2008년에는 일본에 까지 이를 전망이다.
빅뱅은 2008년 1월 4일 새해가 밝자마자 일본에서 첫 번째 미니앨범 [For The World]을 발표하며 한국에서도 음원을 동시에 공개한다.
[For The World]에는 신곡 ‘How Gee’와 ‘거짓말’ ‘눈물뿐인 바보’ ‘La La La’ ‘Always’등 그동안 발표한 노래 중 빅뱅을 대표하는 7곡을 선별, 총 8곡이 실리게 됐으며 전곡 영어로 녹음됐다.
신곡 ‘How Gee’는 90년대 초반 전세계 클럽가를 강타한 블랙 머신(Black Machine)의 ‘하우지(How gee)’를 빅뱅 스타일로 새롭게 샘플링 한 힙합곡으로 반복되는 섹소폰 소리가 매우 인상적인 곡이다. 원곡의 느낌을 잘 살리면서도 빅뱅의 랩퍼인 지드래곤(G-Dragon), 탑(T.O.P) 이 쏟아내는 영어 랩과 태양, 대성 승리의 다양한 보컬이 잘 혼합되어 새로운 느낌을 주는 이 곡은 일본뿐만 아니라 영미음악시장에 내놓아도 손색을 없을 정도의 퀄리티를 자랑하고 있다.
빅뱅의 이번 일본 영어 앨범 발표는 기존 한국 가수들의 일본 진출과는 다른 행보라 눈길을 끈다.
그동안 국내 가수들이 대부분 일본으로 진출하면서 일본어로 앨범을 발표했던 반면 빅뱅은 첫 데뷔 앨범의 전곡을 영어로 발표하는 다소 생소한 시도를 선보이고 있다. 이는 빅뱅을 한류가수가 아닌 해외 뮤지션으로 소개하기 위함이다.
국내에서 가장 두드러진 활동을 했다고 할 수 있는 빅뱅이 일본에서는 언더그라운드로 데뷔한다는 점도 다른 가수들과 차별화되는 점이다.
소속사인 YG가 일본의 유명 레코드사들과 많은 커넥션이 있음에도 불구하고 빅뱅을 언더그라운드로 데뷔시키는 이유는 빅뱅의 외적인 모습보다는 음악을 우선적으로 알려 나가겠다는 장기적인 계획 세웠기 때문. 특히 첫 번째로 음악 마니아 시장부터 공략하고 점차 단계적으로 빅뱅을 알려나간다는 계획이다.
때문에 내년 빅뱅의 주된 일본 활동은 방송 보다는 클럽과 언더그라운드 공연, 콘서트 등의 활동이 주가 될 전망이다. 한국의 아이돌 그룹에 대한 평가를 새롭게 했던 빅뱅. 한류가수가 아닌 해외 뮤지션으로 진출하려는 빅뱅의 새로운 시도가 과연 일본에서도 성공할 수 있을지 기대가 모아진다.
