자우림! 일곱 번째 정규 앨범 [Ruby Sapphire Diamond]. 오색찬란 보석 같은 밴드의 카니발.
국내 최고의 록 밴드라 지칭해도 과언이 아닐 자우림. 그들이 일곱 번째 정규 앨범 [Ruby Sapphire Diamond]를 발매하고, 새로운 돛을 올렸다. 자우림의 신작을 함축적으로 표현할 수 있는 키워드는 ‘카니발’이다. 자우림과 함께 어울릴 수 있는 2008년 최대의 ‘대중적인’ 뮤직 카니발, 그것이 바로 [Ruby Sapphire Diamond]다.
자우림의 일곱 번째 앨범에서 시작되는 그들의 카니발은 뮤지컬 형식처럼 다양하게 펼쳐진다. 앨범의 한 가운데 위치한 7번 트랙이자, 타이틀 곡으로 내세운 ‘Carnival Amour’에서부터 그 기운은 확연히 리스너의 청각을 자극한다. 마치 에밀 쿠스트리차 감독의 마술적 리얼리즘적 정서를 불러일으키는, 이 트랙은 지금까지 접해보지 못한 자우림이자 동시에 멀티플 컬러의 의상을 걸친 새로운 자우림을 깨닫게 만든다. ‘Carnival Amour’는 이번 앨범 중 가장 화려한 곡임과 동시에 기타리스트 이선규의 “앨범 중 가장 슬픈 곡”이란 표현을 체감할 수 있는 트랙이다.
이 타이틀 곡만으로도 [Ruby Sapphire Diamond] 속에는 자우림이지만, 자우림 같지 않은 새로운 시도들이 곳곳에 포진되어 있음을 느낄 수 있다.
