Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar

And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
From where we came

In the circle game
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like, when you're older, must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now
Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town
And they tell him,
Take your time, it won't be long now
Till you drag your feet to slow
the circles down

So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur
coming true

어제는 웬 아이가 호기심 가득히 밖에 나와
잠자리 한 마리 잡아다가 병에 넣었다
천둥소리 요란한 하늘에는 겁을 내고
스러지는 별을 보곤 눈물이 글썽한 채
그리고선 그 아이는 계절을 열바퀴 돌았다
열 줄기 맑게 언 개울물 위를 얼음 지치며,
'네가 크면 말이야' 하는 말은 그 아이를 어르겠고
그리고 장래의 약속은 그 아이의 꿈이 되리라
그리고 계절 그들은 돌고 돈다
그리고 색칠한 조랑말들은 오르락 내리락
우리 시간의 회전목마 위의 포로들
뒤돌아다 보는 외엔 돌아가지 못한다
우리가 온 곳으로부터
그리고 돌고 돌고 또 돈다
회전목마 놀이에서
열여섯 봄과 열여섯 여름이 이제 가고
마차바퀴는 차바퀴로 변하여 도회를 통과하고
그리고 그들이 그에게 말한다
서두르지 말아, 이제 얼마 남지 않았어
회전목마를 멈추려고 네 발을 끌 때까지는
그리고 계절 그들은 돌고 돈다
그리고 색칠한 조랑말들은 오르락 내리락

새로운 꿈이, 아마 더 나은 꿈이 있겠지
마지막 돌아오는 해가 다하기 전에 풍요로운 꿈이
그리고 계절 그들은 돌고 돈다
