Modeld after Ange Jacques Gabriel's twin palaces from the 1760s 1770s at the place de la concorde in Paris. Trumbauer and the man who was his chief designer at this time, Julian Francis Abele, were both Francophiles and products of the training at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, which was appropriate, given that the Parkway had been laid out by the Frenchmen Cret and Greber along Beaux Arts lines.
