Monterry Tech, a school in Mexico, has approximately 70,000 students connected to Internet and accessing more than 2500 course offerings.
The Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) used to print and mail approximately 30,000 enrollment applications annually; now the school will not accept any enrollment application unless it is submitted on Internet. Many universities around the world now assept online registrations and encourage e-mail as a medium for course-work exchanges between professors and students.
The fifth paradigm suggests this: "One could easily imagine e-societies in a highly networked economy." Does this exit yet? We seem to be well on our way. It i fairy clear, thought the Internet and all of its subnetworks, in one from or another, will remain a part of that fantastic future.
