1.God loveth a Cheerful Giver
This past year Jimmy joined our family for Thanksgiving Jimmy is on a very
limited Budget so i was surprised when he handed back the bag of goodies
i,d fied for him to take home
I heard you say you were aking that homeless man Thankgiving dinner Jimmy explained..
I want him to have my bag He needs It more than I do
Jimmy s attitude really got me to thinking especially since I knew he,d spotted the giant candy bar in his sack I explained that I,d also prepared a bag of goodies for our homeless friend but Jimmy ,
beamig . insisted that I take him both bags
Jimmy,s gedture taught me that no matter what circumstance I find myself in there,s always an
others focus that can take the spotlight off my problems Did someone cut in front of me in traffic?
I,ll motion for a driver more harried than I to cut ahead of me in the long line at the stoplight.
Did s shopper grab the last of the Granny Smith apples at the market When I find them at another
store I,ll buy twice as many as I need and make an extra pie for that neighbor whose daughter
was in ana auto accident
And you Know what Just like Jimmy I,m beaming There,s nothing I.m learning like the transforming power of giving
2. Informed consent
An effective and satisfying consultation can be achievedd for both the client and theerapist
when this procedure is carried out ..
you are then able to offer your client every option and every choice to make an informed decision
about their By also allowing your self to explore every option and choice on how to deal with your
clients condition you as a skin treatment therapist have fulfilled your professional respansibility
3. Consultation : The basics
Before we explore new techniques and learn aspects of the skin that will be new to you
we should briefly review the consultation process with respect to basics
There will ba a greater benefit for you and your client if you are thinking and acting in a refreshed
professional manner
To gather the client information complete and detailed consultation sheet to record the data gathered during your skin analysis procedure
The consultation record should be in two parts one that covers all of the client history
the second the skin analysis and summary A thirdpart would be added later that include treatment
and sales history
4. Skinanalysis the new chargeable service
For many of you skin analysis has always been provided as a free service however what you will
learn in this book will allow you to provide an in-depth one-hour chargeable service that demands a professional approach and image
To help maintain this professional image the consultation area should be separate fopm your
treatment area this helps you to retain your forcus on the consultation at hand
So often we leave a treament to answer the phone or to go to recetion for an enquiry and when
we do this our focus and very often an important train of thought is lost .. Keeping your consultation room separate from a treatment room gives the ambiance of professionalism and
breaks our old patterns and habits
One of those habits for many therapists is placing clients in a facial chair for a skin analysis
You dont t need a facial chair ti di this service and in tact it is better not to use one for a number
of reasons Gravity is one
It i important that you examine your client,s skin as it would ba in everyday life
Humans spend most of their time vertical so examining how the skin and flesh sit in a posture other than how they are for most of their does not make a great deal of sense
Another reason not to use the facoal chair is psychological When we therapists work at a facial
chair our whole demeanour changes as we often automatically go in to relaxation mode
running around the bed making sure the clinet is comfortable and relaxation
(As we have heen trained to do) and when we sit down at the head of the bed
( behind the client )
we move further in to beauty therapy mode and loose focus on the task at hand We are not there
at this particular time for client comfort we are there for a professional skin consultation
Beauty therapists have great hospitality skills however these skills often get in the way of a
professional analysis as does a facial chair There are many other reasons why we should not lay a client down without first gathering their medical history asthma back injury bronchitis and
other reasons that may make them uncomfortable at an early stage in the client-therapist
relationship So No CHAIR
