9월17일 2012년, 대한민국 서울 – 지난 9월 16일, 최대의 축제인 “세계 평화 광복: 하늘문화예술체전”을 위하여

1988년 이후 사상 처음으로 서울 올림픽 경기장의 성화가 점화되었다.

이 역사적인 행사에 참여하고자 많은 나라의 수석 보좌관들, 대통령 특별 보좌관들, 위원들, 외무부 차관들과 23명의 외교관 위원들, 또한 세계의 민간 단체 대표들이 십만여명이 넘는 사람들과 함께 “세계 평화 계획”의 출발을 축하하였다. 20여개가 넘는 외국 방송국와 50여명의 기자들도 참석하여 이 중요한 행사를 기록하기도 하였다.

이디오피아의 수석보좌관인자 대통령 특별보좌관인 아세파 케시토 다쇼, 필리핀의 문화부 위원인 조이스 알레그레, 그리고 티모르의 외무부 차관인 콘스탄시오 다 콘세이카오 핀토는 축하연설을 통해 세계평화의 필요성과 다급함을 강조하였다.
이 국제적 축제는 20여개의 단체들의 예술, 문화 공연도 깃들여져 서로 다른 문화를 이해하는데 중요한 길을 내어 주었다. 이 행사의 주최인 신천지 예수교와 자원봉사단체 만남 또한 특별한 공연을 준비하였다.

신천지는 2,000여명의 한국인으로 구성된 마스게임을 통하여 한국, 더 나아가 세계의 통일에 대한 염원을 표현하였고, 여러 색상의 깃발들로 한반도의 통일된 모습을 보여주었다.

또한 기독교 성경의 6,000년의 역사와 그 이루어진 바를 전시하였다. 관중들은 또한 12,000명으로 구성된 놀라운 카드섹션 공연을 보았고, 그 중 가장 놀라운 순간은 경기장의 수천명의 관중들이 공연에 적극적으로 참여하여 끊이지 않는 파도를 일으키는 모습이였다. 화합됨과 정교함을 보여준 이 공연은 모든 관중들의 마음에 감동을 주었다.

만남 또한 마스게임을 통해 모든 문화와 사람들이 하나되어 평화를 이루어 내는 모습을 보여주었고, 요르단, 중국, 인도, 그리고 남아메리카의 국가들의 전통 문화 춤을 선 보였다.
지구촌 곳곳에서 “세계 평화 계획”을 홍보해온 자원봉사단체 만남의 국제부는 지구촌 모든 대륙에서 이루어진 사진 켐페인을 통해 6,000장의 사진을 모아 다양한 문화를 이해하고 감사함으로 평화를 이루자는 취지를 나타내었다.

개회식에서 제막된 “평화란”이란 조형물은 3,913명의 사진과 그들의 평화에 대한 마음을 나타내는 수천가지의 조각들로 만들어져 있었고, 이는 개개인들이 함께 모여 세계 평화와 광복을 이룬다는 것을 나타낸 것이었다.

올림픽의 전통을 따라 신천지 예수교 열두지파와 만남 국제부 회원들은 육상, 축구, 농구, 줄다리기등의 선의의 경쟁을 하였고, 시상식과 폐회식 후 쏟아지는 빗속에서 한지로 만들어진 십만여개의 등이 점화되어 폭죽과 함께 88년 서울 올림픽 노래인 “손에 손잡고”를 부르며 이 행사는 끝이 났다.

이 세계 평화 축제는 국가들이 모인것이 아니라 서로 다른 민족, 종교, 사상의 사람들이 모여 이루어 지는 평화를 위한 행사였다. 세계의 언론들은 이 축제가 세계 평화를 염원하는 모든 사람들을 화합하게 해주었고 행사 내내 모든 사람들에게 감동을 주었다고 하였다.

Seoul, South Korea — For the first time since 1988, the Olympic torch at the Seoul Olympic Stadium was lit on the 16th of September for The World Peace Festival: Culture and Sports Celebration of Restoring Light, the largest festival of its kind.
The historical event brought together distinguished dignitaries and diplomatic agents from many nations to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime event. Over 100,000 people gathered together to celebrate the launch of the World Peace Initiative. Over 20 international broadcasting systems d0cumented this notable event.
Mr. AssefaKessitoDasho, Chief Staff and Special Advisor to the President of the Federal
Democratic Republic of Ehtiopia, Mr. Joycie Dorado Alegre, the Commissioner of the National Commission for Culture and Arts of the Republic of the Philippines, and Mr. Constancio da Conceicao Pinto, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, all emphasized the need and urgency for world peace.
The international festival included arts and cultural programs of 20 different groups to promote cultural diversity, an essential piece in the path to understand and appreciate each culture. The hosts of the World Peace Festival, Shinchonji Church of Jesus and MANNAM Volunteer Association, also prepared special performances.

Shinchonji demonstrated a mass game performance by 2,000 Korean citizens, expressing the wish for the unification of Korea and furthermore, the world. Using multi-colored flags, the group depicted the Korean peninsula as one.
There was also a display of the 6,000 years of history according to the Christian Bible and how it has been fulfilled. Crowds were impressed by the card-section involving 12,000 people that took place in the stands. One of the most impressive moments was the constant waves that rolled through the stadium stands as thousands actively took part in the show. The unison and preciseness of the performance moved all who were watching.
There was also a mass game performance by MANNAM to show the unity of all cultures and people to create peace. MANNAM’s performance of traditional cultural dances represented nations such as Jordan, China, India, and those of Latin America.
International members of MANNAM Volunteer Association, who have been actively promoting the World Peace Initiative around the globe, gathered over 6,000 photos in the photo campaign that took place on nearly every continent of the world. The campaign’s purpose was to raise awareness for peace that is achieved through understanding and appreciation of diversity.
The monument of the “Peace is” Photo Project was revealed at the opening ceremony—a globe of thousands of pieces with 3,913 photos of individuals and their sentiments on peace. It is a representation of individuals joining together for the peace and restoration of the world.
In the tradition of Olympics, the 12 ‘tribes’ of Shinchonji Church of Jesus and the team of International MANNAM members engaged in a friendly competition of sports such as track and field, football, basketball and tug-of-war. After the awards and closing ceremony, the evening closed in the pouring rain with the lighting of a hundred thousand hanji (Korean traditional paper) lanterns during the live performance of the ’88 Olympic song “Hand in Hand” accompanied by fireworks.
The World Peace Festival was not a gathering of nations but of people from all different ethnicities, religions and ideologies that strive towards an achievable peace. Media around the world have stated that the World Peace Festival certainly brought unity among those who wish for world peace and moved everyone’s hearts throughout the event.
