참고될 조언을 들려 주었다.

**Bill Gates` High School Speech on The Eleven Rules of Life**

*RULE 1

Life is not fair-get used to it.

원래 불공평한 게 인생이다. 그냥 받아 들여라.

*RULE 2

The world won`t care about your self-esteem. The world will

expect you to accomplish something BEFORE  you feel good

about yourself.

세상은 처음부터 당신에게 신경쓰지 않는다. 뭔가 업적을 세운다음 자부심을 가져라. 그래야 세강도 인정해 준다.

*RULE3

You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won`t be a vice president with car phone, until you earn both.

고교를 졸업하자마자 연봉 4만 달러를 버는 사람은 없다. 전화기 달린 자동차를 굴리는 회사 부사장이 되는게 그리 쉽지 않다.

*RULE 4

If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

He doesn`t have tenure.

학교 선생을 대하는게 힘들었다고 생각하는 사람은 직장상사를 대하면서 힘든게 무엇인지를 비로써 알 수 있을 것이다.

*RULE 5

Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity.

Your grand-parents had a different word for burger flipping they called it Opportunity.

햄버거 굽는 일을 우습게 여기지 말라 . 당신의 할아버지들은 그 것도 취업의 기회라고 생각했었다.

*RULE 6

If you mess up, it`s not your parents` fault, so don`t whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

당신의 잘못을 부모의 탓으로 돌리지 마라 . 불평만 일삼지 밀고 , 실수를 통한 교훈을 얻으라.

*RULE 7

Before you were born, your parents weren`t as boring as they

are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So

before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your

parent`s generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

당신의 부모가 처음부터 따분한 존재가 아니었다. 당신을 기르기 위해 땀흘리고 ,잘났다는 당신의 말을 듣다보니 그렇게 된것이다. 부모 세대의 잘못을 지적하기 전에 당신의 허점부터 살펴보아라.

*RULE 8

Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they`ll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn`t bear the slightest resemblance to

ANYTHING in real life.

당신의 학교는 승자와 패자를 구분하지 않을지 몰라도 , 세상은 그렇지 않다. 어떤 학교는 학생에게 낙제 점수를 주기보다 바른 답을 맟출 기회를 계속 주기도 한다. 그러나 이같은 상황을 현실에선 찿아 볼 수 없음을 명심하라.

*RULE 9

Life is not divided into semesters. You don`t get summers off

and very few employers are interested in helping you find

yourself. Do that on your own time.

인생은 학기로 나뉘어져 있지않다. 직장생활에서 방락은 존재 하지 않으며 , "내 정체성을 찿고 싶다"는 말에 귀 기울이는 상사는 없다. 그런일은 당신의 개인적 시간에 추구하라.

*RULE 10

Television is NOT real life people actually have to leave the

coffee shop and go to jobs.

TV는 현실이 아니다. 수다떠는 시간이 끝나면 , 다시 일터로 돌아가는게 현실이다.

*RULE 11

Be nice to nerds. Chances are you`ll end up working for one.

'책상물림'들을 무시하지 마라. 아마도 그런 사람들 밑에서 일하게 될 가능성이 크다.
