Does the world sometimes seem so big and broken that you don't know what to pray?
가끔 이 세상이 너무 크고 상처입어서 어떻게 기도를 해야 할지 모르겠을 때가 있으십니까?
I was very much feeling the weight of this responsibility, didn't
know how I was going to pray this morning with any sense of
adequacy.
오늘 아침 제가 이 책임의 무게가 너무도 크게 느껴져서 어떤 적당함으로 기도를 할것인지 전혀 알수가 없었습니다.
Then last week a friend shared with me a writing that had fallen out of an old book and I want to share it this morning.
그러다 지난주 친구가 보여준 아주 오랜된 책에서 떨어져 나온 어떤 부분을 여러분과 이 아침에 함께 나누고자 합니다.
It has refreshed my prayer life and soothed my soul and I hope it does the same for you.
그것은 저의 기도 생활을 새롭게 해 주었고 제 영혼을 달래어 주었습니다 그리고 제가 이것이 여러분께도 같은 일을 하기를 바랍니다.
Although the author is unknown,
비록 글쓴이는 알려져 있지 않지만,
it was probably written by a medieval saint and rendered from
the original Latin sometime later.
이것은 아마 중세 성인중 한사람에 의해 쓰여지었고 나중에 원문 라틴어로 부터 번역되어졌을 것입니다.
I have rewritten it and used today's English.
제가 이것을 오늘날 영어로 다시 번역하였습니다.
The words are the imagined words of God and they provide a form and some spaces that will allow each one of us to participate in a very personal way with Him as we pray together.
이 언어들은 주님을 생각하는 단어들로서 오늘 저희가 함께 기도를 할때 저희로 하여금 매우 개인적인 방법으로 함께 참여할수 있는 공간과 모양을 제공할것입니다.
Let's bow and listen as though our heavenly father is speaking gently to each one of us.
하늘에 계신 아버지께서 저희 개개인 한사람 한사람에게 부드럽게 말씀하시는 동안 고개를 숙이고 들읍시다.
My child, it is not necessary to know much to please me;
내 자녀야, 나를 아주 기쁘게 하려고 하는것을 알고자 하는 것이 필요한 것이 아니다.
it is sufficient to love much.
나를 많이 사랑하는 것이 중요한것이다.
Speak to me as you would to a father if he drew near.
마치 아버지가 너와 함께 있는것 처럼 나에게 말하거라.
Are there any for whom you would pray to me?
네가 내게 기도하고 싶은 누군가가 있느냐?
Repeat to me the names of your relatives, of your friends, of those who toil with you.
내게 너의 가족이나 친구 또는 너와 함께 수고 하고 있는 자의 이름을 내게 반복하거라.
After each name add what you would have me do for them.
그 이름들 뒤에 내가 그들을 위해 해주었으면 하고 니가 바라는 것들을 더하거라.
Ask much, ask much;
많이 구하거라 많이 구하거라
I love generous souls who forget themselves for others.
나는 다른 사람들을 위해 그들 스스로를 잊어버린 관대한 영혼들을 사랑한다.
Tell me of the poor you would relieve, the sick that you have seen suffer, the sinners you would have converted, those who are absent or alienated from you, the lonely and bereaved whose tears you would dry.
니가 위안을 주고 싶은 가난한 자들과 니가 고통받고 있는 것을 본 환자들과 니가 개종을 시키고 싶은 죄지은 자들과 너로 부터 떠났거나 소원한 관계가 된 사람들과, 니가 눈물을 마르게 해 주고 싶은 외롭고 사별한 사람들을 내게 말하거라.

Where would you send my peace, what would you have me restore, whom would you have me comfort?
나의 평화를 어디로 보낼것인지, 나를 회복시키기위해 무엇을 가질것인지 나로하여금 누구를 위로하게 하고싶은지?
Are there graces that you would ask for yourself?
너 스스로를 위해 묻고 싶은 은총이 있는지?
Tell me, if you wish, a long list of what you desire, all of the needs of your soul.
니가 바라는것 너가 원하는 긴 소원리스트, 너의 영혼이 바라는 모든것을 내게 말하라.
Tell me about your pride, your insensitivity, your lack of kindness, your laziness.
너의 자존심과 너의 무신경함 너의 부족한 친절과 너의 게으름들에
대해 다 내게 말하여라.
Poor child, do not blush;
불쌍한 자녀야... 부끄러워 말거라:
there are in heaven many saints who had their faults;
천국에는 그들의 잘못을 가진 많은 성인들이 있단다.
they prayed to me, and little by little their faults were corrected.
그들은 내게 기도했고 조금씩 조금씩 그들의 잘못은 고쳐졌다.
Bring me all your failures, and I will show you the cause of them.
내게 너의 모든 실패를 가지고 오너라 그리하면 내가 너에게 그 실패들의 원인을 보여줄것이니라.

문제가 있느냐?

누가 너를 그리 고통스럽게 했느냐?
Tell me all.
나에게 다 말하여라.
And will you end by adding that you will pardon and forget?
그리고 니가 용서하고 잊어버리겠노라고 끝을 맺는다면?
If you do, I will bless you.
만약 그렇게 한다면 나는 너를 축복할 것이니라.
Do not hesitate to ask me for blessings for the body and mind; for health, memory and success.
내게 너의 몸과 마음과 건강과 추억과 성공을 위해 축복해 줄것을 구하기를 주저하지 말아라.
I can give you all things, and I always give, when my blessings are needed to render souls more holy.
나의 축복이 영혼을 좀더 성스럽게 하기위해 필요할때마다 나는 네게 이 모든것을 줄수 있고 그리고 항상 줄것이다.

오늘 내게 무엇을 원하느냐 나의 자녀여...

너의 부모를 기쁘게 하기를 원하고 너의 가족들과 더 가까원지기를 원하고 니가 기대고 있는 그들이 축복받기를 원하느냐?
What do you want for them? And for me?
그들을 위해 그리고 나를 위해 무엇을 원하느냐?
Have you some loving and passionate thoughts of me?

Don't you wish to speak of my goodness to your friends who have perhaps forgotten me?

Are you resolved to give up the control of some temptation?
어떤 유혹에 대한 통제를 포기하기로 결심해지는 않았느냐?
To put away the thoughts or activities which excite your imagination?
너의 상상력을 흥분시킬 어떤 생각이나 활동을 치원 두지는 않았느냐?
To no longer give your affection to a person who is not godly and whose presence disturbs the peace of your soul?
너의 영혼의 평화를 해치는 존재나 신실하지 않은 사람에게는 너의 애정을 더이상 주지 않지는 않느냐
If you are sincere, I will be sure to help you, even to show a kindness to this companion who has hurt you.
만약 니가 진심이라면 내가 너를 꼭 도울 것이다. 심지어 너를 아프게 한 이 친구에게도 친절을 보여줄 것이다.
Do you dread something painful?
너는 어떤 고통스러운 것을 두려워하느냐?
Is there in your heart a fear which is tormenting you?
너를 심히 괴롭게 하는 어떤 걱정이 너의 마음에 있느냐?
Trust yourself completely to my care. I am here.
너자신을 완전히 내게 믿고 의지하거라.. 내가 여기에 있다.
I see everything. I will not leave you.
나는 모든것을 본다. 나는 너를 떠나지 않을것이다.
Don't you have joys to tell me about?
너는 나에게 이야기 하는 것이 즐겁지 않느냐?
Why don't you let me share in your happiness?
왜 나로 하여금 너의 행복을 함께 기뻐하게 하지 않느냐?
Tell me what has happened since yesterday to cheer and comfort you.
어제부터 너에게 기운을 주고 너를 위로하기 위해 일어난 모든 일들을 내게 말하여라.
An unexpected message or visit which did you good;
너를 기쁘게 하였던 기대하지 않았던 소식이나 방문:
a fear that suddenly lifted;
갑자기 사라진 걱정
a test or trial that went well;
잘 지나간 시험이나 시도
the scent of a flower or a view of the mountains?

A display of affection ;

I have prepared it all for you.
내가 그 모든것을 너를 위해 준비했다.
You can show your gratitude and give me thanks.
너는 너의 사의를 표할수 있고 나에게 감사하다 할수 있다.
Well, my child, go now;
자, 나의 자녀야 이제는 가라
take up your work; be gentle, humble, and kind;
너의 일을 들어라; 온화하고 겸손하고 친절하여라
and come back tomorrow, and bring me a heart still more devout and loving.
그리고 내일 다시 돌아와라 그리고 나에게 여전히 더 독실하고 사랑하는 마음을 가지고 와라.
Tomorrow I shall have more blessings for you.
내일은 내가 너를 위해 더 많은 축복을 주리니...
