미국의 역사 중 노예를 이용한 노동력 충원과 노예의 해방과정을 살펴보면 의외의 재미있는 에피소드들을 찾아낼 수 있다.
In the history of the United States of America, we can find lots of interesting stories and episodes, if you look into the process of the exploitage of the slave labor and the emancipation.
특히, 자신도 노예의 신분으로 다른 흑인 노예들을 도망치게 도와 준 한 흑인 여성 Harriet Tubman의 스토리도 그러하다.
Especially, the story of Harriet Tubman, who had been a slave herself and helped other slaves escape, is also interesting.
---------------The Underground Railroad-----------------
While the North and South argued over slavery, some brave people worked to help slaves to escape to freedom. One of the people who helped slaves escape had been a slave herself. Her name was Harriet Tubman.
When Harriet Tubman was a little girl, she had worked as a slave for a mistress who often beat her. Harriet wanted to run away. She dreamed of being free.
As she worked in the fields, Harriet heared other slaves whispering about a railroad. But it wasn't a real railroad. It was called the Underground Railroad, and it was a way for slaves to escape to freedom. It wasn't really underground, but it was called that because it was secret. It was a secret way to go North to freedom. Along the way, many people, both white and black, took great risks by hiding and feeding slaves who had run away from their masters.
With help from people on the Underground Railroad, harriet Tubman escaped to the North. There she was free. But she didn't just sit still and enjoy her freedom. She started fo work for the Underground Railroad herself. She went back and helped her family escape. And she kept going back, over and over. It's hard to tell exactly how many people Harriet Tubman helped, but some say that she led three hundred slaves to freedom.
