              “nervous? If you lose this hand you know you’re out!”

                       To which I replied, “no, I’m as cool as a cucumber.”

        In English if someone says they are as “cool as a cucumber”

it’s the same as them saying they’re very calm, relaxed and in control.    

A cut cucumber actually can feel cool to the touch.

This is because they are very moist; because they are moist the

evaporation of the moisture provides a cooling effect.

Also the strange image of woman receiving facial treatments

with slices of cucumber on each eye is brought to mind.

It is precisely for this cooling effect that this is done.

It is supposed to give the person receiving the facial a relaxed and calm feeling!

So remember, the next time you have a stressful job interview,

stop, breathe and stay " as cool as a cucumber” and I’m sure you’ll do just fine!
