When the earth was still flat And clouds made of fire 대지가 아직 평평했고 불구름이 떠다니던 시절 And mountains stretched up to the sky Sometimes higher 하늘까지 솟은 산과 그보다 더 높은 산이 있던 그 때에 Folks roamed the earth like big rolling kegs 사람들은 나무통처럼 지구를 굴러다니며 They had two sets of arms They had two sets of legs 두 쌍의 팔과 두 쌍의 다리와 They had two faces peering Out of one giant head 큰 머리 양쪽에 두 개의 얼굴을 가지고 있어 So they could watch all around them 양쪽 세상도 다 볼 수 있고 As they talked; while they read 읽으면서 동시에 말할 수 있었지 And they never knew nothing of love 그들은 사랑에 대해서 아무것도 몰랐어 It was before the origin of love 사랑의 기원 이전이었으니 The origin of love And there were three sexes then, 그래서 그 때는 세 개의 성이 있었는데 One that looked like two men Glued up back to back 하나는 두 남자의 등이 붙은 Called the children of the sun 해의 아이들과 And similiar in shape and girth Was the children of the earth 두 여자아이의 등이 붙어 하나로 된 땅의 아이들과 They looked like two girls rolled up in one And the children of the moon 포크와 스푼이 붙은 것 같은 달의 아이들이 있었지 Were like a fork stuck on a spoon They were part sun, part earth, part daughter, part son 한쪽은 해, 한쪽은 땅, 한쪽은 아들, 한쪽은 딸인 The origin of love Now the gods grew quite scared Of our strength and defiance 신들은 우리의 힘과 반항을 두려워하기 시작했어 And Thor said "I'm gonna kill them all with my hammer 천둥신 토르는 말했지.내 망치로 그들을 모두 죽이리라 Like I killed the giants" 내가 거인족을 죽였듯이 But the Zeus said "No You better let me use my lightning like scissors 그 때 제우스가 말했지 내 번개 가위로 혼내주리 Like I cut the legs off the whales Dinosaurs into lizards" 고래의 다리를 자르고 공룡을 도마뱀으로 만들었듯.
