I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest

Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks to God all day

And lifts her arms to pray...

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

Who intimately lives with rain

Poems are made by fools like me

But only God can make a tree

내 결코 보지 못하리

나무처럼 아름다운 시를

단물 흐르는 대지의 가슴에

굶주린 입을 대고 있는 나무

온종일 하느님을 바라보며

잎 무성한 두 팔 들어 기도하는 나무

눈은 그 품 안에 쌓이고

비와 정답게 어울려 사는 나무

시는 나 같은 바보가 만들지만

나무를 만드는 건 오직 하느님뿐
