청운의 꿈을 안고 한양을 넘나들던 문경새재 

   야무진 얼굴의 선비가 아직 과거를 보지 못한채 서있었다.

과거길

옛부터 영남에서는 많은 선비들이 청운의 뜻을 품고 과거를 보러 한양으로 갔다.

영남에서는 한양으로 가는 길은 남쪽의 추풍령과 북쪽의 죽령 그리고 가운데 새재가 있는데 영남의 선비들은 문경새재를 넘었다고 한다. 추풍령을 넘으면 추풍낙엽 같이 떨어지고 죽령을 넘으면 미끄러진다는 선비들의 금기가 있어 영남의 선비들이 과거급제를 위하여 넘던 과거길이다.

In Mungyeongsaejae, three gates wait for travelers: Juholgwan, the first gate, Jogokgwan, located halfway up the mountain, and Joryeonggwan at the mountain’s peak. People heading to the old road to Mungyeongsaejae must approach the first gate Juholgwan; the trip to Mungyoengsaejae begins there.
