"If You're Gone" is a song by the rock band Matchbox Twenty. It was the second single off Mad Season. The song, written by Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas, became a top 10 hit on adult contemporary radio. Reaching #5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, it is the band's second best-ranking song, preceded by the single "Bent" from the same album. The song was one of the few Matchbox Twenty songs that was consistently played on Rob Thomas' solo tour, and remains an adult contemporary radio staple almost nine years after its release. In fact, Rob had recently confessed during his current tour with Matchbox Twenty that he initially wrote this song just to write it; he never dreamed of it going out on an album, let alone being a huge success. The horn-driven outro of "If You're Gone" borrows heavily (note for note) from "When the Rainbow Comes" by World Party from their 1990 release Goodbye Jumbo.
