The Road not Taken

Two  roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;


Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,


And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.


I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

노랗게 물든 숲 속에 두 갈래 길이 있었다.

난 한꺼번에 두 길을 다 갈 수 없어

안타까와 오랫동안 선 채로

한 길이 굽어 꺾여 내려간 데 까지

한참을 그렇게 바라보았다.

그리고, 똑같이 아름다운 다른 길을 선택했다.

그 길에는 풀이 더 있고 사람이 걸은 자취가 적어

아마 더 걸어야 될 길이라고 생각했던 것일까

내가 그 길을 걸음으로서,

그 길도 거의 같아질 것이겠지만.

그런데 그 날 두 길은 모두
발 길에 밟히지 않은 낙엽에 덮여있었다

 아, 나는 다음 날을 위하여 한 길은 남겨 두었다.

하지만 길은 길로 이어지는 것이기에

되돌아 올 수 없음을 알고 있었다.

먼 훗날 어디선가 나는 한숨지으며

이렇게 이야기 할 것이다.

  어느 숲에서 두 갈래 길을 만났었지

그리고 나는 사람이 적게 걸어간 길을 걸었노라고

그로 인해 내 인생의 모든 것은 바뀌어 졌다고.
