Drybulk in ‘state of chaos’

"지난 주의 광범위한 시장 혼란은 불에다 기름을 끼얹은 격이었고, 드라이벌크 관련 주식에 심각한 손실을 입혔다"고 Dahlman Rose의 애널리스트 Omar Nokta가 전했다. Excel 대표 Stamatis Moralis는 "신용 경색이 조금만이라도 지속되면, 조선소(특히 신생조선소)들은 카드로 만든 집처럼 무너지기 시작할 것"이라고 말했다. Molaris는 은행들이 지급을 거절하면서 화물들이 항구에서 오도가도 못하고 있다고 말했다. 그는 "이런 일은 우리에게 일어난 일이고, 모두에게 어디서나 일어나고 있는 일"이라고 지적하면서, "전체적인 시스템이 혼돈 상태에 빠졌다"고 말했다. "어떻게 강조해야할지 모르겠지만, 은행들은 더이상 돈을 빌려주지 않고 있다"고 경고했다. THE GLOBAL lending freeze and worsening commodity fundamentals are still squeezing the drybulk sector, as the US House votes today on an $700Bn bailout to unclog the banking system.
Scepticism remains on the end result – particularly while credit markets were losing this morning in New York even with the bailout in the wings and US shares were in freefall during early trading.
“Last week’s broad market turmoil added fuel to the fire and resulted in severe losses for all drybulk stocks,” said Dahlman Rose analyst Omar Nokta this morning.
Excel president Stamatis Moralis told Reuters on Friday: “If the credit crunch lasts beyond the short term, shipyards – especially the newer ones – are going to fall like a house of cards.”
Molaris told Reuters that cargoes are being stranded at docks because banks refuse to pay for movements.
“It has happened to us and it is happening everywhere to everyone,” he pointed out. “The whole system has come to a state of chaos.
“I cannot stress this enough: the banks are not lending any money,” Molaris warned.
Nokta also cited drybulk fallout from iron ore producer Vale’s negotiations with Chinese steelmakers.
“Spot activity out of Brazil has slowed dramatically,” he said, adding that Chinese officials “have stated that steel mills will suspend iron ore imports from Brazil, a claim Vale executives have denied”.
