Eugene Park is an US-born, Korean violinist who, by most people’s standards, can be called a genius. Born in the United States in 1976, he entered Julliard at the age of 8, and has been noted as one of the best violinists of the decade. He has released two albums, one in 1997 and the other in 1998. He came to Korea, his home country around 1998 and was called a national hero by the media. However, he has disappeared from media since a few years ago. Recently, Korean fans have found out that he has been exploited and manipulated by his agents in Korea. He has literally been imprisoned for several years and seems to have been forced to take drugs, which worsened his bipolar disorder and light autism. The medication made Park not play by his own will, but by the force of his agents. The CEO of his management company seems to have connections with the police and therefore the Korean police have not reacted in any way regarding this case. There is even talk that the CEO recorded a video of Park without any clothes on. We, as Koreans, feel that this tragic reality must be handled not only by Korean media, but also American media as well.
Most Koreans know Park’s name from his overwhelming popularity in the late 1990s. Park was once a worldwide renowned artist who performed in Super Bowl, and some even regarded him as the next Vanessa Mae. He was invited to play at Michael Jackson’s concert in Seoul and even played at the Presidential Inauguration in 1999. This top performer is now suffering from exploitation, violence and abuse from his agent. His health is seemingly in danger. From the videos of him performing on stage throughout this year, one can see the impact his health condition has made in his performances. The difference between his performances before becoming mentally unstable and after is stark. In the latter performance, Park seems to have trouble just keeping up with the beat. This performance was right after Park was beaten and locked in a room by his agent. His agents’ abuses have caused Park to become mentally unstable. It is hard for us to find out exactly what state Park is in current because there is no way we can reach him. However, there have been assumptions that Park has been taking medication to help with his instability.
Park’s agents seem to have taken advantage at the fact that Park is an US-born, 2nd-generation Korean who has limited knowledge about Korean culture. They have locked Park in a room, only letting him out to play at small concerts and events. The concerts that he has been playing at are small in scale and usually poorly planned out. The agent, or "manager," as Koreans call it, is taking advantage of Park's weak health. From what many Koreans have seen from video clips of his latest performances, Park's passionate and inspiring performances are nowhere to be seen, and what we can only see is his blank stares and his hitting wrong tunes. This is not because he has suddenly lost his potential, or because he is not a passionate musician anymore; it is because of the current situation he is in, the continuous abuse of his agent and lack of help from outside. We are sending out this message to the world because we do not want this shining star to lose its light. We want him back to the place where he is supposed to be standing--be it Carnegie Hall, Sejong Art Center, a top TV music program--rather than the decrepit stages on which he is forced to play. We hope to publicize Park's current situation so that more Americans, not to mention the world, will know what is going on with this Korean-American artist. Park came to his home country to find his roots and perform in front of the Korean audiences, and certainly he does not deserve this kind of treatment.
It is impossible to get Park out of this horrible situation without foreign help because of many reasons. First of all, he is a second generation Korean who is not completely fluent in Korean, making him an easy target for his agents to take charge. Also, Park’s father passed away a few years ago and the rest of Park’s family is currently in the United States. His management company is so heavily involved with Korean mafia that it is hard for the police to intervene. Because of these reasons and others we do not yet know of, Park is chained to his management company as he has been for years. He is not even healthy enough to play on stage, yet alone record a new album. It is sad to see such a bright star fade away by outside influence, and as his fans who remember him playing his violin on TV, we want to help in any way we can.
Even though we are Koreans who are proud to have such a musical genius such as Park in our country, we feel that he needs help, most importantly help from Americans, to get out of this devastating situation. Park is an American citizen who came to Korea because he loved his home country, and it is sad to see him get betrayed by some of his own people. We ask you to help Park become a shining star once again.

‘잠적 논란’ 유진 박 15일간 행적은?
15일간 가족과 연락이 닿지않아 납치설 등이 제기된 천재 전자 바이올리니스트로 유명한 유진 박(33)씨의 행적에 대한 본지 보도 이후 경찰이 수사에 착수했다.
유진 박과 소속사인 F엔터테인먼트의 김모(46) 대표는 박씨가 15일째 가족과 연락이 되지 않고 있다는 본지 26일자 초판 보도내용이 알려진 이후인 25일 저녁 10시30분 경기 군포경찰서에 나타났다.
F사 김 대표는 이 자리에서 “유진 박을 감금한 사실이 없다. 가족과 연락을 끊은 것도 사실이 아니다.”라면서 “가족과 통화한 내역을 경찰에 제출할 예정”이라고 주장했다.함께 자리한 박씨는 그동안의 행적과 이같은 납치 및 감금설의 진위를 묻는 기자들의 질문에 “잠오는 약이 필요하다.”는 말만 되풀이한 것외에 아무런 설명을 하지 않아 궁금증을 자아냈다.
유진 박은 천재 전자 바이올리니스트로 8세때 미국 줄리어드스쿨 예비학교에 입학했으며 1995년 줄리어드 음대를 졸업하면서 국내 언론에 천재로 집중조명된 바 있다.
앞서 이날 오전 가족들과 박씨의 전 매니저 이모씨 등은 소속사 F엔터테인먼트측이 박씨에게 강제로 행사 스케줄을 소화시키고 가족·친구들과의 연락도 차단시키고 있다고 주장했다.한국에 거주하는 박씨의 친척인 A씨는 본지와의 인터뷰에서 “어머니가 미국에 있기 때문에 우리가 신경을 많이 썼다. 지난해부터 유진이와 계속 통화하려 했으나 전화가 연결된 적이 한 번도 없다.”고 말했다.
전 매니저 이씨는 미국에 있는 박씨 어머니의 부탁을 받고 지난 24일 경기 군포경찰서로 찾아가 “지난 10일 이후로 박씨의 소재가 파악되지 않고 있다.소속사에서는 박씨가 어디 있는지 가르쳐 주지도 않고 전화도 못 하게 한다.”며 F엔터테인먼트 대표 김씨를 고발하려 했다.
전 매니저 이씨는 경찰에서 “박씨가 2006년 2월 F사와 2년 6개월간 전속계약을 맺은 뒤 가족과의 접촉이 차단된 채 소속사의 스케줄만 소화하고, 경기도 군포의 모텔에서 생활하며 로드매니저로부터 상습적인 폭언과 구타에 시달렸다.10대 때부터 조울증으로 약물치료를 받아오던 박씨는 이 과정에서 심한 정신적 충격을 받아 증세가 악화됐다.”고 주장했다.
이어 이씨는 “로드매니저가 항상 박씨와 함께 다니면서 행사 스케줄만 소화하게 하고 개인생활은 허락하지 않았다.”면서 “지난 8월 계약이 만료됐지만 F사에서는 ‘박씨가 계약을 위반했기 때문에 9개월을 더 일해야 한다.’며 박씨를 일방적으로 데리고 다니는 상태”라고 말했다.
한편 이날 저녁 늦게 진상조사에 나선 경찰은 당초 가족과 이씨의 이같은 주장에 대해 “납치감금으로 볼 수 없다.”는 입장이었다.경찰 관계자는 “박씨가 머물렀다던 모텔 주인의 진술과 지난 20일 경북 포항에서 행사를 한 박씨의 정황으로 미루어 보아 그렇다.”고 말했었다.

전자바이올리니스트 유진 박(33)이 감금됐다는 신고가 접수됐으나 헤프닝으로 끝났다.
경기도 군포경찰서는 26일 유진 박(33)이 감금됐다는 신고를 받고 조사한 결과 사실이 아닌 것으로 확인돼 내사 종결했다고 밝혔다.
경찰은 이날 "유진 박의 전 매니저 이모 씨가 지난 24일 '유진 박을 현 매니저가 군포의 모 모텔에 감금하고 있다'고 신고, 현장을 확인한 결과 모텔 주인이 '유진 박이 11월 중순쯤 머물다 갔다. 그와 함께 쇼핑도 했다'고 진술해 감금 상태가 아니라고 판단했다"고 밝혔다.
경찰은 또 "유진 박은 현 매니저 김모 씨와 함께 지난 20일 포항에서 공연했고 이날 밤 김제의 공연도 예정돼 있다"며 "신고가 사실무근"이라고 설명했다.
경찰 관계자는 "유진 박이 현 매니저 김 씨와 지난 8월 말까지 계약이 돼 있었고 구두로 계약을 1년 연장한 것으로 조사됐다"며 "계약 문제로 전·현 매니저 간에 다툼이 있는 것 같다"고 말했다.
이 관계자는 "유진 박의 어머니 등 가족이 미국에 있고 전·현 매니저가 갈등을 빚자 유진 박이 25일 밤 용인에 사는 친척집으로 거처를 옮겼다"고 덧붙였다.

[쿠키 사회]노예계약을 빌미로 신인여가수를 성폭행하고 유명 남성 음악인에게 자위행위를 강요한 악질 기획사 대표가 구속됐다.
서울경찰청 광역수사대는 26일 노예 계약을 맺은 소속사 연예인을 성폭행한 혐의(강간치상)로 모 엔터테인먼트 대표 김모 씨를 구속했다.
경찰에 따르면 김씨는 2007년 9월8일 오후 10시쯤 전남의 한 호텔에서 전속계약가수 A씨를 협박해 강제로 성관계를 맺는 등 3차례 성폭행했다.
김씨는 A씨와 “전속기간 7년 기간에 5장의 앨범을 발표하지 못하면 계약기간이 무한 연장되고 정해진 숙소에서 혼자 생활해야 한다”는 내용 등이 담긴 ‘노예계약’을 맺은 것으로 조사됐다. 김씨는 A씨와 계약금 100만원에 전속기간 7년의 계약을 맺었다.
경찰조사결과 김씨는 A씨에게 또 “너를 믿고 투자하려면 잠자리 동영상을 찍어야 한다”며 협박한 뒤 이를 거부하자 모텔로 끌고 가 성폭행한 것으로 밝혀졌다.
김씨는 또 소속 연예인이 계약을 파기하거나 다른 기획사로 옮기는 것에 대비해 여성 연예인을 성폭행하는 장면을 동영상으로 찍고 자신의 기획사 소속 유명 남성 음악인에게 자위행위 등 수치스런 행위를 강요한 뒤 촬영한 것으로 알려졌다.
A씨는 김씨의 만행으로 그동안 수차례 자살시도를 했으며 경찰에서 “2년간 온갖 모욕을 다 참았지만 너무 힘들어 참을 수 없었다”고 진술한 것으로 알려졌다.
폭스엔터테인먼트인지 하는 조폭회사 사장한테 구타를 상습적으로 당한건 물론이고, 매니져가 수면제를 준다느니 항우울제를 준다느니 하면서 끌고 다녀서.... 실제로 단기간에 약을 너무 많이 먹어서 상태가 정상이 아니라고 하네요...
지금은 소속사 사장이 지난번 사건때문에 구속되어서
유진박도 풀려나서 미국 본가로 가서 치료받고 휴식중이라고 하는데
뇌손상이 심하다는 말도 있고... 어린애처럼 옆에서 누가 일일히 거들지 않으면 힘들다고합니다..
정말 어쩌면 사람을 이렇게 만들 수 있는건지... 정말 우리나라는 갈 수 이상해지는것 같습니다..
